It Sure Doesn't Feel Like Winter. It Must Be the Christmas In July Blog Hop, Day 3

Here is today's project:

I made this shaker card, which is a first for me. I bought the plastic window frames a few months ago and I haven't used them until now. Directions didn't even come with the package, so I have created my card from scratch.

I wanted to keep the cuts very simple and focus on enclosing the materials in the shaker window without the glitter escaping. 

I have figured it out! Now I can share with you!

I will do a pictorial later this week with step-by-step directions.  

I used Wild Card cartridge and cut the "stitched" card base at 4 3/4". The angel was cut at 1 1/4" and the stars were cut at 1 1/2". Both cuts were from Joys of the Season.

 Can you see the gold glitter inside the window?

 I cut a liner to help seal the shaker window.

Cards, Cards, and More Cards

Hello Crafty Friends,

It was a great day...no meetings, made a couple cards, and then organized a little of the craft area. Tomorrow should be a good day too, since it will be repeat of today with the addition of going to the movies to see Harry Potter.

Here are a few of the cards that I have been working on in-between the holiday projects.

Challenges:

I used the Tuesday Trio sketch, but cannot enter the challenge since I did not use lace. : (

I am going to enter the Scrappy Frogs Summer Flower challenge.

The paper is My Mind's Eye and the Celebrations cartridge was used for the gift, cupcake, and sentiment cuts.

 I created this sketch and I like how it turned out. The cupcakes were cut at  1 1/2" from Sweet Treats. The paper is K&Company. The buttons, embroidery floss, and ink is an army green color.

I sure do have the tendency to use this party hat (Celebrations cartridge) when I make birthday cards. It just looks so fun. I am trying to work with stamps a little more rather than die cutting my sentiments.

Can it Be? Christmas in July, Day 2

Welcome back for Day 2 of the Christmas in July Hop hosted by Lisa of Scrapping with Lisa handmade with love. If you came from April of Curls and Grins, then you are in the right spot.

I am extremely thrilled that you have returned today for another project. I had a good time making this holiday card because I used a mosiac technique. I used some scraps that I had from last Christmas and created my own background paper. I love how it looks and how versatile it is. You can create a dozen of these backgrounds and none of them have to look alike.

These were the materials I started with and then added solid red, white, and green cardstock.

 First, I used a rectangular piece of paper for the bottom layer. I wanted to be able to leave space between the boxes to add a framed look. Then, I cut the scrap paper into various shapes (squares and rectangles) and sizes. A glue pen was used to adhere the pieces.  

 Once my background was complete, I was able to cut an image. I selected a couple wreaths in two different sizes to see which one I liked best. One was cut from the Gingerbread cartridge (left) and the other was cut from Jolly Holidays (right). They were cut at 3 1/2" and 4".

I chose the wreath from Jolly Holidays  ~ 3 1/2". I added the swirl embossing and created a shadow (cut at 3 3/4") since it is not a feature on this cartridge. The red gems sparkle in the light, which make the card more attractive rather than the paper berries that were cut with the bow.   

The wreath has been adhered with foam squares to add dimension and the sentiment was cut from the Wild Card cartridge.

I have started another background to show you more options.

Now for my project: Many of you may know that I am 5th grade teacher and I love to make cards for people at school. This was the perfect time to begin my holiday cards for my new class. I do not know how many students I am going to have this year, but I am glad I am able to get started on them now.

 I used the Gingerbread cartridge to cut the gingerbread man and the Doodlecharms cartridge to cut the reindeer.

 This background paper is Alpine Socks by k*i memories.

These snowflakes were cut from the Potpourri Basket cartridge. The sentiment was cut from Jolly Holidays.

I am looking forward to tomorrow since I get to post another Christmas in July project. How exciting! Since this is all about Christmas...I have a gift for one lucky person.

Card Patterns Sketch 123: Thank You

Hello Crafty Friends,

I made this beautiful card earlier today for the Card Patterns Weekly Sketch and I tried getting some bright photos, so you could see how vibrant the colors are. The paper is My Mind's Eye.

 Thank You was cut at 2 1/4" from the Thanksgiving cartridge.

Time to Announce the Winners

I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone that has been visiting during the past couple of weeks, especially for leaving wonderful comments on my Blogoversary and then for the Scraps Hop. Those quilt cards were my favorite and super easy to make. If you didn't see them, please go look and then try making one.

Although it is summer vacation, I have been extremely busy in curriculum meetings. I am finishing up this wek and then I will have 1 1/2 weeks off before a couple more days of trainings. Since I have not had much time to comment, I will be able to then.  Yeah : )

Last night I made a couple cards (a co-worker actually told me not to take any work home from our meeting and make some cards instead ~ I think she knew I was going through card withdrawal) using paper I won from Stephanie at A Steph-Made Life. I love this paper. I am hoping to find out where I can get some more.

"Summer Fun"

When I was growing up, my grandparents would take us to Rocky Point in Rhode Island (and yes, we would travel in the RV). It was a small amusement park where we would go on the rides, get a big 5 gallon container of clam chowder, and we would fish on the rocky shore. This week's card reminds me of those wonderful summer days we would spend there.
