Happy New Year's Eve!

Anyone have plans to watch fireworks? We are staying in for the night where it will be nice and warm. I just got over a cold and now the hubby has caught some type of bug. I am sure we can find a movie if needed, but that will depend on what time football ends.

I have been busy in the craft room today enjoying my free (and quiet) time. Kelsey went to her boyfriend's lake house, so she is not sharing my space. I decided to find a sketch/challenge.

Today's project...

I needed to make a thank you card for my secret pal since I didn't make enough the other day. I watercolored a happy MFT hedgehog. I did stamp and heat emboss his outline before applying the color. I pulled out my Gansai Tambi paints, but I did not like the browns or pinks. Instead I used my older set from Artist Loft (Michaels brand), which had a few shades of each pink and brown.

I used the following sketch from Atlantic Hearts Sketch and it closes tonight. Just in time!

The scallop oval is a die from Avery Elle ~ Sweet Scallops set. I added white pearls around every other scallop and then a pink bow to match his scarf.

The thanks die is by Paper Smooches.

You Make Me Happy Dragons

Hello Friends!

I worked on these cute little dragons this morning and just took a couple photos once we returned from the movie theatre (We saw Pitch Perfect 3.). I am a bit bummed with the shadows, but lighting is not at its best since it is so dreary outside. I may try to retake pictures tomorrow morning if the sun is shining, but I was excited to get it done.

First, I stamped each dragon on 110lb white cardstock and then heat embossed the stamped outline with clear powder. It helps control the color from seeping outside its lines. I used my new Tim Holtz Oxide inks (faded jeans, broken china, and wilted violet) to watercolor each dragon.

I used this week's sketch from My Favorite Things. A random winner is selected each week and the prize is a $50 gift card to the shop. I hope to win one day!

Lastly, I heat embossed the MFT stamped sentiment from the All About You set with white powder. The black strip sits on pop dots so it is level with the dragons.

Various Techniques Using Oxide Inks

It's Wednesday and Winter Break is just a little more than half over. It has been wonderful so far and I have plans to get even more accomplished. My daughter and I took a trip to My Favorite Things in Eustis this morning since they were having a 25% off sale and I had two gift cards from school. We picked up a few dies and she picked out a new stamp set. 

I started making these thank you cards for my students yesterday and finished them when we returned home. I used my new Tim Holtz oxide inks and watched a few videos while trying some new techniques. I found a super long video that had 30 different techniques (click here). I did not watch the entire video at once, but rather in spurts. I was able to make seven cards so far and I am only on technique 15. I need a few more cards, so there are plenty of other techniques to try.

Today's project (with techniques)...

Round blending tool with splattering, white die-cut letters, and a stamped sentiment 

Oxide inks with blending tool, then used metal die-cut THANKS with Cuttlebug

Oxide inks applied with water pen (worn lipstick, cracked pistachio, broken china, faded jeans, and wilted violet); heated between layers of colors; white die-cut letters

3 shades of oxide inks splattered (fossilized amber, broken china, and worn lipstick) and then the THANKS was cut directly from white card stock

The letters from previous card were used so no waste.

Oxide inks applied over a MFT geo stencil and water spritzed. THANKS was cut from black cardstock. Scalloped background is from MFT Blueprints 20.

The stencil from previous card was spritzed with water and then laid on a piece of white cardstock. Light impression of remaining ink pattern transferred.

My students should like receiving a card once we return to school. I am very appreciative of their kindness and want them to know I am grateful. Also, Janis and I have been chatting again. Thank You Challenge at Die Cuttin' Diva

Happy Day After Christmas!

I sure hope every one enjoyed their Christmas, made lasting memories with their families, and received some crafting goodies (or anything else you may have wanted). Our day was wonderful! We had LOTS of good food, the family played a few games, and I did get crafting goodies (everyone else got what they wanted too).

Here is my Design Team project...

I decided to try out a new stamp set (unicorn) on a new scallop die. I think they are super cute, but I need to work on my coloring skills (good thing I still have another week off).

I usd the following sketch from Sketch N Scrap.

The magical unicorn is from MFT. I used some Spectrum Noir markers. My daughter got some Chameleon markers for Christmas, but I need to wait and watch a video on how to get that ombre look. Hoping to improve my coloring skills!

Do You Like Fries, Santa?

Since today is almost over, it brings us closer to Christmas Eve. I am going to have some family for dinner and a gift exchange, and then another special guest will be visiting...Santa. We are ready!

When I created these Santa suit fry boxes, I had my childen and nieces in mind. In actuality, they wil be for anyone that would like a yummy chocolate treat.

I cut the fry boxes by Lori Whitlock on my Cameo. They were SUPER easy to assemble! I bought the Russell Stover candies at Walgreens for 39 cents each while they were on sale. I thought the wrapper with Santa's face was perfect for each box.

MFT Blueprints Challenge with Stars

Happy Friday All,

We are almost ready for Christmas here. I just need to go to the grocery store in the morning to pick up a few pieces for our Christmas meal. I know the store won't be too busy at the crack of dawn and then I have the rest of the day to clean and/or craft.

This afternoon I looked for a challenge and came across one at My Favorite Things that I thought would be interesting. It is to use a Blueprints with stars. I happen to have a few, so I decided to give it a try.

I used Blueprints 11 and 15 for the stitched rectangle, plain rectangle, wavy pennant, and some of the stars. I used the new stitched star die for the biggest ones. 

I cut the MFT Merry Christmas die in white cardstock with my Cuttlebug. 

I used a few pop dots on the backside of the star to add dimension. A small pearl was placed in the center of the star and then vertically in the upper corners.

Celebrate the Holidays with Die Cuttin' Divas

Happy Tuesday!

I am a little excited that today is the last day of school before the Winter Break. Although I woke up with a cold yesterday, I am not going to let that ruin my time off. 

Today also brings a new challenge at Die Cuttin' Diva and this one is perfect for any last minute projects you want to make before Christmas.

This Week's Challenge...

~ Holiday ~

Here is my Design Team project...

I used the MFT Quilt die and 4 different papers.

I used Graphic 45 paper ~ Twas the Night Before Christmas stack.

I used the MFT ~ Trim the Tree stamp set for the top card and Bug Bites ~ Glad Tidings stamp set for the bottom card. 

Yesterdaay was craft day in my class. The students worked on four different projects and the quilt card was one of them.

The students were grouped together into threes and given a baggie with the frames and pieces already cut. They had to sort the pieces, choose which ones would coordinate and then assemble. 

This was a great exercise for fine motor skills.

The students were quite surprised with their final product and I think their parents will like them too.

Have a Tasty Holiday with M&Ms

Hello Crafty Folks,

So glad to be able to share a project I made this weekend. These are the popular MFT lip balm pouches, but I filled mine with milk chocolate holiday M&Ms. Yes! They fit perfectly.

I  didn't have the tall tag die, so I used my Cameo to adjust a bookmark to just the size I needed. I used the rip strip on the back so the recipient can get to the candies easier.

A variety of festive pattern papers, ribbon, and twine were used. The 1 inch tag was cut on my Cameo and the stamped sentiment is by Jaded Blossom ~ Gingerbread Wishes.

I Hope You Know...You Make a Difference

Thanks for stopping by to see what is new today.

My daughter and I went to My Favorite Things this morning for a class with Pam. We made four different snowflake cards and then did a little shopping. My daughter picked a sloth stamp and die set and I was pleasantly surprised that I had earned enough "hearts" to receive some store credit. That basically means that I have spent way too much money there during the last year. When we got home she started crafting away with her sloths and I took some photos of a card I made last night for the hubby.

He asked me to make a card for the person in charge of his Sunshine Committee. I used his school colors and the paw represents his mascot...the Wildcats.

I used my Cuttlebug to cut the MFT Thank You circle frame and my Cameo to cut the paw.

The stamped sentiment is All About You by My Favorite Things. I thought it was perfect since this person has done a great job planning school activities for the staff. I sure hope she likes the card and knows how much she is appreciated.

Happy Holiday Tag

Hello Everyone,

Today was our Camp Days field trip and what a beautiful day it turned out to be. We were at Camp Kiwanis for a chunk of the school day and the students rotated to 6 different activities: Forestry Dept, PE, S'mores, Snowman Craft, Lunch, and Playground. Since my students are 5th graders, this was their last one (they will be in middle school next year) and many parents are sad to know their baby is growing up.

After school I came home and created this tag in honor of being in the forest all day (unfortunately we didn't see any deer at the camp).

The treat tag and stamped sentiment (Winter Wishes set) are by Jaded Blossom. The deer, snow drifts, and trees are by My Favorite Things. I used my Cuttlebug to cut out all the pieces.

I bought the white ribbon at the Scrapbook Expo and the polka dot ribbon is from Michaels.

The Santa SVG file is from Too Cute By Jessica ~ Christmas Faces. It was easily cut on my Cameo and adhering was a few pieces that layered nicely.

This photo seems blurry, but it was an action shot since Santa is on an action wobble. I don't even know if they make them still, but I have a few in my stash. It was too fun playing with Santa and watch him dance around in circles wildly.

Let's Make a Box at Die Cuttin' Divas

 Hello Diva Friends,

Welcome back to Carson's Creations! I am so glad you are stopping by to see what I have been creating during the last week. Today brings a new challenge at Die Cuttin' Diva and this one is perfect for the holiday season.

This Week's Challenge...

~ Make a Box ~

Here is my Design Team project...

What better way to give a gift during the holidays than with a homemade box. I chose a milk carton by Lori Whitlock at the Silhouette on-line store that will open easily when the ribbon is untied.

I used kraft paper for the box and the pattern paper is by My Mind's Eye ~ Lost & Found Christmas stack. I used some brown and cream ribbon and then tied the tiny tag by My Craft Spot with a twine cord. The stamped sentiment is by Whimsical Designs.  

The Layered Snowflakes are by My Favorite Things.
