Getting Ready for the 2014 School Year

Hello Crafty Friends,

Hard to believe this is the last weekend before going back to school on Tuesday. I sure have enjoyed summer, but wish I had another couple weeks to get a few more projects done (mainly birthday and thank you cards). Here are a few school projects that I have created during the last week.

I made 24 of these Granny Smith apple treat boxes (matches my class colors ~ click here to see pictures of my class).

This is a Lori Whitlock 3D treat box from the Silhouette on-line store. I made one previously at 5" (see here), but these are only 2 1/2". I added a yellow ribbon, a black button, and a white twine bow to each one. The stamp is from Jaded Blossom's  School Rules stamp set. They each have 5 Starbursts, which represents 5th grade.

I made a new sign for the front of my class door. It was a black chalkboard plaque that I bought at Hobby Lobby. It was originally $4.49, but I used a 40% off coupon. Good deal! Save money to buy more!

First, I used an old white ink pad and a dauber to create the background. Then I cut out the letters (at 3") in the lime green and yellow polka dot paper using the Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge. I hung the sign on my door yesterday when I stopped by school and it looks great!

The last project I made was for a friend. She is a new Reading Coach this year and she wants to give each of the teachers she will be working with a special treat. I created the chalkboard tags for her to attach to a hand sanitizer container. Once her husband found out I was making them he asked for some since he is a Reading Coach too but at a different school. I made a total of 60 tags!

I typed the sentiment in Word onto a chalkboard background (15 to a page), used a scalloped Spellbinder die and the Cuttlebug to cut each one, and inked the edges with that old white ink pad. Then I used a small hole punch to punch two holes in each tag. After that my daughter feed the twine through the holes. All my friend needs to do is tie each one on her hand sanitizer containers!
Challenges:

Now I have some clerical work I want to get done (name plates, Communication Logs, Folder Labels, etc.), so when we start Tuesday I can look at the new schedule and create my lesson plans. I am super excited about this new school year and I can't wait to meet all my students. I will be sure to keep you posted!

Enjoy your weekend!

Chalkboard Cards with Crinkle Ribbon and a Winner

Happy Friday Everyone!

Today is my 3 Girl JAM day and I am sharing these fabulous chalkboard cards. I have been admiring them for weeks! I have to give a BIG shout-out to Gwen at This and That because she was the one that motivated me to follow through and make them. We chatted about the designs and I immediately went shopping searching for the right chalk pencils. After numerous stops I found the last pack at Hobby Lobby on clearance!

Here is my DT project...
Creating the background was super easy and fun (the most difficult part was choosing the right stamp)! The 3 Girl JAM crinkle ribbon coordinates with a variety of pattern papers.

I started with black card stock and my embossing buddy to add the white powder look. Creating the borders needed to be unique just like each stamped shape. I used a white gel pen to add doodling around the edges.

Coordinating ribbon (Lemon-Lime and Grey-Gray from the new LG bundle and Iris from the Spring Flowers bundle) and brads tie the colors together. A few pink flowers (card below) are perfect for all the Azaleas blooming.
Blog Hop Winner...
Georgiana ~ What GORGEOUS creations you have here! I LOVE this color combination! The card and both the little boxes are so PERFECT!!!
Send me an email (coachfans at cox dot net) Kim and I will forward your handmade stick pins!

Hope you will join us at 3 Girl JAM for the April Challenge...All Things Spring
