Welcome to the Embossing Blog Hop!
I am so glad you have decided to join us today. We have a great hop for you with lots of tips and techniques on how you can add either dry or heat embossing (or BOTH) to your projects. There are pictorials, videos, and how-to's at each stop.
- Along the way you will have the opportunity to win some blog candy and enter a challenge to showcase your work.
- Comments will be welcomed at each stop. We want to know what you think. Share whether you like to emboss or if it is something you want to try. Our goal is to encourage you to try a new technique.
- We would love for you to follow so we can visit you too, but it is not necessary. We want to meet new creative friends and be able to share ideas. Learning from each other makes us better crafters.
- Lastly, ENJOY!
Here is my project...
Here are the papers I started with...My Mind's Eye Lost and Found Two.
Once you decide which paper you want to use for stamping and heat embossing, take a static bag and rub over the area (as shown below) to prevent the embossing powder from sticking to the paper. I purchased mine at Michaels for $5.99 but used a 40% off coupon.
I used a VersaMark stamp pad, embossing powder, and a rubber stamp. You have many options when it comes to embossing powder. This is Recollections gold. The rubber stamp is from Michael's dollar bin.
After you stamp the paper, pour a generous amount of embossing powder over the stamped area. Shake off the excess powder carefully onto a piece of paper and pour the remains back into the container. You may use a small paint brush to dust off any loose pieces of embossing powder.
Use your heat embossing tool to melt the powder. I move my tool in small circles over the stamped area to prevent burning of the paper. It is amazing to watch the powder melt and begin to glisten.
If you are not up for heat embossing yet, you always have the option of adding texture to your projects with dry embossing. There are numerous patterns by Cuttlebug, Sizzix, QuikKutz, and even Hobby Lobby has their Paper Studio line of folders.

Are you ready for some goodies?
I found this perfect embossing folder that I want to share with one lucky visitor.
Be sure to leave a comment on this post for your chance to win. I would like to know your embossing background, preference, and/or favorite brands. Include your blog name (if you have one) and your email address, so I can contact you if you win. The winner will be announced on Saturday, April 7th.
If there are more than 50 comments, I will add a different embossing folder for another lucky winner (or you can pick this one if you like it too).
How About a Challenge?
We thought it would be fun to offer a challenge to allow you to add an embossing technique to your next project and share with others.
Create a new project (a card, layout, altered art, etc.) using either dry or heat embossing (or both) and post here. Let us know if you used a technique you learned from this hop and which one.
Another winner will be selected from all the entries and will be announced next Saturday. Here are some of the goodies you will win.
Another winner will be selected from all the entries and will be announced next Saturday. Here are some of the goodies you will win.
The more entries we have, the bigger the goodie pack gets. If we have at least 5 entries another piece will be added. If we have 10 submissions, then another craft item.
We are looking forward to seeing what you create!
Now hop on over to Carri at Doubleclick~Abusybee to see her awesome embossing video.

Nice Project. I usually use dry embossing. I have tried heat embossing but I am never really pleased with the results.

I love that card! Heat embossing looks so elegant and classy! I usually use a dry embossing folder myself, but want to do more of the heat embossing in the future. Your project makes me want to dig out my embossing powders and play! TFS!!

this is gorgeous!! When i was younger my mom introduced me to heat embossing (probably 15 years ago). I actually haven't used it much in my crafting now but I use dry embossing all the time, I usually use cuttlebug folders. Thanks for the chance to win!! I am hoping to get a chance this weekend to make a card for this challenge showing you one of my techniques!

I love heat embossing but I am not very good at it. I also use dry embossing, and I use Cuttlebug folders or Hobby Lobby's Paper Studios.

Georgiana this came out beautifully!Love how you showed how to put it all together. I think the colors in your card and mine they could be a set. The black of the flourish is a great design element brings your eye right to the pretty little bird. karen
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card! Love your picture tutorial and the finished card is awesome!! Thanks for the hop and having me a part of it!

This is so pretty, Georgiana! I love the look of the embossed gold. I've never heard of a static bag so will have to look for one of those. I usually just use used Bounce sheets!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for inviting me to join your hop!!
Wonderful embossing on the card. I first learned embossing when hubby gifted me a Fiskars light box embossing kit on a Mother's Day several yrs ago. The templates are plastic and I used a stylus. I then upgraded to a round light box that did not get as hot as the first one and brass templates. Now I do both heat embossing & dry embossing with embossing folders and still do some of the embossing using the stylus.

ReplyDeleteYour card is really pretty. I love 'my minds eye' papers and the bird is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me on the hop,
Colin
lovely card. tfs. i tend to stick to using my embossing folders. i just don't seem to have much luck with heat embossing.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your card, G. It's so beautiful! The heat embossing looks perfect. Mine doesn't always turn out that way, so that's why I mostly use embossing folders. Thanks for including me in your hop! Oh, your pictorial is wonderful!! Great job--Pat
ReplyDeleteReally cool hop and challenge!! I just love your card .. so pretty!! I have tried both kinds of embossing and probably like embossing folders the best :-) Now to see if I can get something made :-)

I love your card!! So beautiful! I have done both dry and heat embossing. It is easier to dry emboss, but I so love the look of heat embossing. And I will have to hunt me one of those static bags!!! The embossing powder getting all over my paper is one of the reasons I don't do it as much. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love this. The colors on this card are awesome.
ReplyDeleteheat embossing is something I would like to try, I did not know about the static bag, so I learned something already!

Super cute card! I prefer to use my cuttlebug for embossing as I always tend to make a mess with the powders haha!

i've done a lot of blog hopping...even participated in one myself a few times, but this is the best "theme" yet! :)
ReplyDeletei received my own cuttlebug last november and i've been having a blast with it ever since! i won some heat embossing supplies a few years ago, so i also do quite a bit of that, but for the most part right now i'm all into dry embossing. i love the textured look!!! :) and it's sooooooo easy to do -- and hardly any mess versus stamping, embossing, etc. :)
thanks for the chance at a great folder :) so far i've only worked with the cuttlebug brand folders, but i've seen the others used and i love the different textures. :)
This is gorgeous! I think I will have to get out my embossing items-haven't used them in so long--I always forget that I have them!
ReplyDeleteI love dry embossing. It is one of my fave techniques. I have never done wet embossing or own any of items needed for it.

Georgiana, this is simply gorgeous, I think I might join in on the challenge too!!!
ReplyDeletemzcherub at gmail dot com
Well, as you know I just got a Cuttlebug, so yes, you will be seeing my very first dry embossing project! I am also very new to heat embossing. Haven't quite mastered it yet. But I'm getting there. A big problem I had, you just solved -- I had no idea what a static bag was. I couldn't get all of the embossing powder off of the paper before I used my heat tool, so I wasn't very successful. Now, I'm just going to have to buy one... another trip to Michael's? Don't twist my arm! hahaha
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great time!
Fun hop!

Wow. This is really neat. I stubbled across your blog and became a follower. I really am interested in embossing. I had the oportunity to do a little heat embossing myself from a friend when I was visiting family. I do not have any of the supplies I need due to my budget but I am hoping to be able to real soon. I love your card. I really want to do this now. Thanks for the inspiration. I dont have a blog but I am on blogger for commenting. I hope to have one here soon in the near future. Thanks again.
