My friend Yvette (The Little Things) and I held a Cricut 101 training afterschool today to show all the interested teachers how to use the new Cricut Expression that our PTO purchased and after that I was eager to come home and create something. I first started with making a no-staple no-glue mini album, but got distracted with all the great challenges that were posted. I decided to make this card instead and will work on the other project tomorrow. It is very simple and the students love it! Be sure to check back later on how to make your own.

Our 17th anniversary is in Novmeber and my husband wants a camera, so when I saw this image on the Heritage cartridge I thought it was perfect for him. I want to add one of our wedding pictures to the frame (once I get it duplicated for cropping).

Wacky Wednesday #6 - Sports Theme! 

The challenge is anything sport related! It can be anything! Any Project, Any Size and any color.

I remember how Carri at DoubleClickConnections said she dislikes sports and how challenging it was to make a sports themed card...well, I do understand! I am not a sports-liking person either, but I thought I was up for the challenge too. After staring at the Basketball cartridge for quite some time (I still haven't used it) and then I searched for a trophy image, I decided to make a 1st place ribbon with Plantin Schoolbook.

My son is going to particpate in cross country beginning Monday and then Varsity wrestling. I created this card to give to him when he wins either a race or a match.  I thought I should be prepared rather than wait until the last minute (like his birthday).

Two Questions...Please Give Feedback

My birthday is approaching within the next month and I am hoping to get some birthday money. If I do I want to buy a new cartridge or two. The problem I have though is it is like the cereal aisle...too many choices. I would love to have some input to make my decision easier.

Here is my first question...What is your favorite cartridge (and maybe you could tell me why)?

Here is my second question...What are your thoughts on ads on your blog page? The reason I ask is because I recently went to a a page or two of favorite sites I like(d) to visit and there were ads ALL over it. What happened to sharing your love of crafts and projects you make? These pages were covered with ads from Amazon, Google, Oh My Craft, etc. I understand they make you some money (right?), but isn't there a point where there are too many?

PLEASE SHARE! Tell me your thoughts.

I am hoping to be able to do some crafting tonight. The card I made last night was a quickie and defintiely not my best (too much back to school work to do - but it is up-to-date). It was my son's 16th birthday yesterday! Kids sure do grow fast...where does the time go?!?!

I used the Wild Card cartridge for the base and inside sentiment and Plantin Schoolbook for 16. I used black gems to add some flair.

Yeah! I'm So Excited and I Just Can't Hide It! (Wait, isn't that a song?)

After school today I checked my comments (as I do everyday now that I am back in class - oh yah, I have 23 students with a new one coming tomorrow. Remember all that school "stuff" I made for the Back to School blog hop - it wasn't enough! I have making lots of crafts for every student for the last two to three days which is why I haven't been posting other projects) and I was extremely surprised to find a message from Scrappy Scavenger to check out her blog. Of course, I did like she asked and I found this. YEAH! : )

It's Clear for a Challenge

We are still working on the bedroom, so I decided to use the same color palette and create this layout. I love this clear transparency we found at our local scrapbook store yard sale. They were 5 for a $1.00 with all types of designs. I plan on taking lots of pictures and mounting them on each space.

Bedroom Color Challenge Update

First, I want to send a huge THANKS to Carolyn at Sweet 'n Sassy Stamper for being the first person to post a picture for me. I asked her to test it out, so I knew if I correctly attached the Link feature (Can you tell I am a newbie?).

 It worked! YEAH!

Here is the update...We started off at Lowe's this morning buying the paint (Limolicious and Filoli Morning Glory) and picking up few blue and green storage containers. Then we came home and moved all the furniture...that was lots of fun. Then the taping around edges came next. Finally...PAINT TIME!

While my husband is painting our daughter's room, I decided to make a card using the same colors. I used the Martha Stewart Playful Blue paper pad that I won at More Than Favors. The dream bubble was cut a 2 1/2" using the Potpourri cartridge.

Bedroom Color Challenge

My daughter, yes that wonderful 12 year old of mine, has decided she wants to redo her bedroom again...this usually occurs at least every other year. She gets all these great ideas, creates floorplans, and then mom has to buy the "stuff" and dad has to paint for the entire weekend.

 I thought it would be fun if we asked for your help. She needs some creative ideas for pictures for the walls and shelves. We would love if you would participate with us and use the following colors as an inspiration. She chose: Filoli Morning Glory and Limolicious. The base boards are white and the furniture is black. Here is a picture of the bedding.

I will allow my daughter to choose her favorite submissions and then she will get to go shopping again for some goodies for the winner. Please have all projects posted by Monday night. Winners will be announced on Tuesday after my daughter comes home from school and has a chance to preview all the projects.

Anything Goes with "Three Layers"

Challenge #12: Three Layers

I created two layouts this evening for The Craft Den Anything Goes Challenge. 

This first one I had planned on finishing before school started.  The students do not officially start until Monday, so I am going to say I met this goal.  The other...well...it has taken me a few years...better late than never...right? All the pictures are framed in multiple layers.

My daughter found this paper at a yard sale our local craft store held a few weeks ago. It belonged to a Creative Memories kit and we purchased it since she loves horses. I used the Old West cartridge for the letters...Flourish and Flourish Shadow at 1 1/2".

This second layout was just created although it says 2006. I purchased the Coca Cola paper after visiting the museum in Atlanta, developed the pictures once we returned home, and then put it in a scrapbook that I had good intentions of creating. Well, it never happened until now. It was a good thing the date was on the back of the pictures or I would have never remembered the year.

12 Year Old Has Creative Bug

My daughter (who happens to be 12) has asked numerous times if she could have a blog to post her cards and I have repeatedly told her, "No". I do not feel she is old enough (since it says 13 years old) and I want to remain protective just a little longer. Therefore, I am posting some of her cards on my site so she will not feel left out.

PLEASE feel free to let her know what you think. She would LOVE to read some comments...any comments...even one...about her cards. I do not help her. I have informed her she must make them or they are no longer her creations.

Although I am her mom, I think they came out pretty good. : )

Gotta' Love a Deal

My daughter and I went shopping before I head back to school tomorrow and we found some GREAT deals.

Disney paper at Joann for 10 cents each and Disney stickers were 99 cents at Michaels

6X6 designer paper stack on clearance for $1.00 at Marshalls

Target's dollar section had yellow dot items for 50% off (My friend said they are now 75%.). These will be perfect for the scrapbook club for school.

I am ready to start creating projects for Halloween now. I even bought a stamp (not pictured) and used the 40% off a regular price item at Michaels.

Halloween stack was 40% off and individual sheets were 5 for $1.00 at Joann

Teacher Appreciation at Joann's was this past Saturday and Sunday and teachers received another 20% their total purchase.

Joann's Scrapbooking section had super deals if you were willing to take your time and look. The best buys were the 1/16" hole punch for 97 cents and the edge punch for $3.97 which was regular price $14.99. YEAH!

Camp Out Word Wall

Day 7

Final Day for the Back to School Hop

I finally finished one of the two projects just in time for the last day...26 images, 26 shadows, and 26 letters later...

I really like how my Word Wall turned out. I am going to laminate each picture when I get back to school on Tuesday so they will be more durable and then hang them up. I think the parents and students will like it better than just the individual letter.

I used the Camp Out cartridge and cut each image at 4". The white letters were cut from Plantin SchoolBook at 3".

Two Projects in Progress

Day 7

Back to School Hop

I have two projects started that I need to finish for the final day, Sunday. Wow! That is tomorrow already. It has been a pleasure creating, posting, sharing, reading comments, visiting your sites, and being able to give away goodies. 

• The first one consist of 30 Teacher Name Plates for Meet Your Teacher. My friend, Yvette, at The Little Things, has been my partner for this project. Our principal asked us to make them since our PTO purchased the Cricut Expression (and 12 Cricut cartridges) thru a mini grant I wrote for us to use at our school and for the scrapbooking club that we volunteered to initiate as an after school enrichment program for the 3rd - 5th graders. We figured it was the least we could do to help. His only request was to include the image of the Cricut. That was easy!

• The second one is my Word Wall. I am using the Camp Out cartridge once again. Since I am cutitng out 26 images and letters it is taking me a little longer than expected. I like how they are coming out so far. I plan on using about 6 different images and either black or white letters. I will post the final pictures on Sunday.

Day 6

Back to School Hop

  Magnetic Bookmark

Here are the supplies you need for today's project:

• 1" strip of paper that is 6" in length
• self-adhevise magnet
• favorite Cricut cut ~ mine is a moose track cut at 1" from Camp Out

 

Steps:

1. Fold piece of paper in half

2. Glue favorite cut on top portion of folded strip

3. Attach magnet to the inside bottom of each strip

 

I like these bookmarks because when students are walking around and holding their book sideways thier place will not get lost since the bookmark does not fall out.

 

 

It is hard to believe it has been almost a week. I hope you have been enjoying all of our projects. I know I have and I am looking forward to making some myself! It actaully will be very difficult to chose which one to do first. We LOVE the comments and checking out your sites. There are some really amazing projects posted!

Let's Go Exploring on Day 5

Camp Carson's Class of Learning

Anyone that has visited my class knows that I LOVE moose...there are pictures, stuffed animals, books, droppings (I did not collect these ~ students have brought them back from their vacations. You have to love 5th graders sense of humor!), etc. Therefore, all my students are introduced to my collection (obsession sounded just a little too strong) and they are more than welcome to become a part of it.

My project today is a Survival Kit for each student. Since students are going to be exploring a challenging curriculum this year, I knew they were going to need a few supplies. I created 18 of these bags (the maximum number of students allowed in grades 4 - 5 is 22 due to class size amendment)

I used the Camp Out cartridge for the moose, frame, and sign. The grass was cut from Plantin Schoolbook. The Survival Guide was typed on Microsoft Word.

I am going to include items such as: pencils, erasers, Smarties, a free homework pass (I am going to use the scrap pieces from inside the frames), and a bookmark (which I will be making this week).

I will be honest...I did not spend as much time on these bags as I did the cards because I knew kids would not save these. They are going to take the goodies out and cram the bag "somewhere". I am definitely going with "the thought counts" on this one.
