Birthday Challenge

Good Evening Everyone,

Today was a lovely Sunday. We took my sister and one of her daughters to lunch at the Olive Garden. One of my favorite restaurants. After dropping them off we went to the movies to see Captain America (She didn't want to go with her knee pain.). I made a quick stop at Michaels and picked up two paper stacks since they were on clearance for $2.49 & $2.99. Yeah! Don't forget the 20% off coupon this week you can print from their website. Double yeah!

I also worked on a card today for my husband's nephew. His 21st birthday is this week, so I made him a "manly" card. Now we are trying to decide when are you too old to get gifts. We have 7 nieces and nephews between the two of us and we want to set an age to sending them gifts. We previously discussed 18, but increased the age to 21 since he is still living at home. Any suggestions? Do you set age limits for anyone?

Materials:
paper scraps ~ striped vellum, brown cardstock, and Cowboy Solo
"Just Because" Cards  cartridge ~ cake ~ 4 3/4"
Birthday Bash cartridge ~ sentiment ~ 4"
Cuttlebug embossing folder ~ Distressed Stripes
orange gems

  1. What a great card! I like the 2 separate layers for the image and the sentiment. On my mom's side of the family, birthday gifts stop at age 25 so no more for me, haha (I'm going to turn 27 in September). For Christmas though, my aunts say that they'll continue to get us gifts mainly because we all gather together and open them. They said that they'll stop getting us gifts when we get married and have kids because then the kids'll get the gifts!

  2. Georgiana,
I always enjoy seeing your work! You did a wonderful job with this sketch. The colors are great! I'm not sure if my parents set any age, but I have noticed that they stopped giving me stuff when I was around 20. Now it all makes sense LOL!! When that happened I didn't even notice it so I'm thinking your limit at age 21 would work. Thanks for playing along with us at Birthday Sundaes!

  3. Great job on the cake card! Looks yummy! As far as age limit- I think 21 is a good cut off for nieces and nephews- we have a total of 14 so we did not do birthday gifts due to the cost- and we are now trying to decide the Christmas cut off as we do that currently and we have some who are at that age. :)Amy

  7. You know what I like? I like that you used the same stripey paper for the layers as you did for the background - just turned it sideways. I love the way that looks. :) Great colour combo too, especially for a boy. As always, a great card all-around. :)

  8. Love your card, great job with the sketch! I don't really think there is an age limit to birthdays. To me it's more a matter of what you can afford. My DH and I are both teachers, plus, our oldest kid attends one of the most expensive colleges in the country. We simply can't afford to buy birthday presents for nieces and nephews. None of our sibs ca afford it either. We have one brother in the Navy, another is a state trooper, one sister is a social worker, anther is a SAHM. There's simply no money for birthday presents for nieces and nephews. We do Christmas and graduation and weddings, though.

  9. Hi Georgiana, Great masculine card! Our family does birthday gifts to 21. My sister in law has a big family but they draw names in January and you get a gift for that person for their birthday and for Christmas for the year. Hope you have a great day!

  14. Sounds like a fun Sunday! This is a very manly birthday card! The cake looks great! It is such a nice birthday card! For birthdays, we cut off gifts at 18 but we still send gifts (aka $) for graduations! Good Luck! Thanks for playing along and hopping with us at Birthday Sundaes! I hope you'll join us again tomorrow!
