Something recycled...something repurposed. Perhaps a milk jug turned into a scoop...or a tin can made into a pencil holder. Maybe your kids planted some trees to help the environment...or maybe you did. There are tons of ways to get greener in everyday life. Today we are showing off our creations to celebrate Earth Day 2013.
Factoid...Earth Day is observed on April 22 and was started in the United States in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson to create awareness for the Earth's environment and to encourage conservation efforts. In 1990, Earth Day was taken international, and today, more than 500 million people in 175 countries observe Earth Day.
If you’re just starting here make sure to head over to the beginning with Jessi at My Life in Arts’ n Crafts’. I hear she’s giving away some goodies too!
Here is my Earth Day project...
I chose this Earth cut since it represents our cause. We need to take care of where we live and how we treat our planet, so it will be a safe and clean place for future generations.
The Earth sits on an action wobble and moves (maybe even rotates a little...just doesn't revolve).
Materials:
papers from scrap box (see below)
Give a Hoot Cricut cartridge ~ Heart Earth (p. 39) 3 1/4" and sentiment 1"
red heart buttons
willow green organdy ribbon
Glossy Accents
action wobble
Earth Day Goal...Use these scraps
Another Factoid...FORTY MILLION TONS of paper is discarded each year in the United States. That's a little less than half of the overall paper used in the country each year - the U.S. uses about 85 million tons of paper and paperboard, and recycles about 45 million tons of that. By most standards that is an excellent recycling rate, but it's almost disheartening to know that "only" wasting forty million tons of paper is a good thing.
Blog Candy...
One lucky person will be randomly selected to win a surprise goodie pack. Leave a comment stating whether or not you recycle and what items if you do. Me...I do recycle! Paper, junk mail, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass, and plastic bags. The winner will be announced later this week.
Here is the line-up...
OMG! That's a lotta scraps! Great card, G and thanks for all the factoids! We recycle all plastics and paper.
ReplyDeleteJust the other day my boy asked me if we can start saving cans. He said he will make money and its good for the enviroment. :) Gotta love the earth which we live on!

Awesome card Georgiana! I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteWe as a family recycle whatever we possibly can.....our garbage has gone from 2 cans a week to 1/2 can and an overflowing recycling bin. Now if I could only recycle all my scrapbooking scraps....OMG my pile looks like yours :)
Thanks for sharing and have a GREAT Sunday!
I love your card!! I wish my scrap bin looked that neat...lol, mine is all scattered about in the under-bed storage container, I do however have pattern paper on one side an cardstock on the other. I have been using mine a lot lately.

Super card!!! We recycle everything we can!!
ReplyDeleteI love your card and the shape you made it in. As for recycling we recycle everything. Our waste management center gave us a list of everything they accept and if it is on that list it goes in a certain container. We own a small business and we bring back all of the packing material so it can be recycled also. I think it is very important for everyone to do their part.

I re-cycle aluminum cans and paper (mail, etc). I read the newspaper on the internet so I'm saving lots of paper that way. I have several scrap boxes under my work table and usable pieces of CS and designer paper go into them for re-use in other projects. I love your world heart. Great job.

ReplyDeleteLOVE your card!! The heart earth is so cute!!! That is a cart I don't have!
ReplyDeleteI recycle a TON of plastic, paper, aluminum and cans. Our recycle service does not take glass so I try to re-use what I can.
I have an in-home daycare and we use a lot of recycle items in our art projects (tp rolls, egg cartons, butter dishes, detergent caps, lids, baby food containers. etc.)! We also re-use a ton of toys that other children have outgrown!!
Glad to be in this hop with you!!!
Yes I recycle and this year the city started curb side pickup so some of us got together at the Retirement trail park and got a large blue recycle bin here in our park. I recycle cans, plastic, paper and cardboard boxes. No glass here so i use what I can to store thing in craft room and kitchen. Thanks for sharing your project.
ReplyDeleteReally great card...
ReplyDeleteWe recycle most everything. We can not recycle glass. I also do not throw scraps of paper and ribbon away for the most part. I try to use every last bit.

Hello Georgiana! I do recycle and we do have a compost bin too. My paper scraps are used until there is very little left and then it goes on the container to make my own paper, which is something I have been wanting to do for quite some time! Thanks for sharing this lovely card!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!

Thats is one heck of a big stack of scraps, but if you are like me you will not throw any of it away. We are in to recycling big time in Canada.Plastics, papers, bottles, junk mail, newspapers and even tires. Thanks for the chance to win.

ReplyDeleteGreat card to love our planet earth. I have been using catalog covers, boxes, mail flyers,& various paper items to create embellishments. It is interest how something punched the image changes to a beautiful butterfly or flower. It is great fun.
ReplyDeleteI really like your card.

I have way to many scraps if I dont use them up soon, I'm gonna have a bonfire and make marshmallows.
ReplyDeletethanks for being in my hop!
I definately recycle. Paper is the thing most recyled in our household. Where I live our recycle bins are twice the size as our garbage cans. And our yard debre can is even bigger. Then we have smaller bins for glass, oil, etc. I have most of my scraps divided by color in clear single accordian type folders. I say most because I have a few smaller containers that look just like yours that I need to sort into their folders.
