It's the Purple Scrapbooker's Day...that is Jen's day for a fabulous blog hop with wonderful projects to help celebrate her birthday. If you came from Star's Paper Passion you are doing a great job hopping along. If you just happened to visit today thank you for coming back, but why not join in and enjoy the crafts and goodies.
I chose Jen's favorite color (purple) and my favorite color (brown) to create a birthday card.
Here are the supplies I started with.
I layered the My Mind's Eye paper and then added the floral.
This is a close-up of the floral. I pieced together the brown, purples, and blue florals and secured with a small brown brad.
The sentiment was cut from the Wild Card cartridge at 6 1/2". Small brown brads coordinate with the floral and the foam pieces add dimension.
Happy Birthday was also cut from the Wild Card cartridge (6").
Happy Birthday Jen!
What is a blog hop without goodies? Since this is a birthday celebration, the present (prize) will be a surprise. Of course, it will be crafty related (paper, ribbon, buttons, gems, etc). Here is a little twist...usually everyone asks what your favorite/best gift was, but for today I want to know the worst birthday present you ever received. Not too long ago I posted about the "tool" my husband gave me. It was for that time I ended up in a drain field and needed to escape from my Jeep. Hmmm...still hoping that doesn't ever happen and I never need to use the Houdini tool.
Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you. You may leave your blog and/or e-mail address. Looking forward to hearing your stories.

This colour combination really looks great together.... Pretty card!
ReplyDeleteGreat card! Love the color combination:)
ReplyDeleteMy worst present ever was a sweater that was the wrong size (I know that happens all the time) my husband was upset with me when I went to exchange it for a different size, he said I didn't like his taste. He hasn't bought me any clothes since:( I think he just wanted an excuse. That was when we were first married 25 years ago!

Pretty card, great colors. One year I just couldn't think of anything to tell my husband to get me. So I said... Buy me a Band Saw (I knew he wanted one so it was a joke) Jokes on me, I got a Band Saw!

I love the card, it is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteMy worst present. The first year my husband and I were married. My mother in law gave me a statue of a girl holding a basket.
It was ugly and wasn't even useful. The basket couldn't hold anything. Not anything that I would ever have in my house. I ended up giving it away. :)
I love purple with brown!! The paper you used is so very pretty too!! Great job with this card!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining my birthday hop!!
Great card! It was great you decided to use purple. My worst present I ever received was jumper cables. My husband thought I would need them someday. It was thoughtful of him, but I have yet to use them. Maybe some scrapping stuff would have been a better idea!
ReplyDeletepretty card - i like the layered flower.

Lovely card and love all your comment on the worst gift...ths is going to make a very good read, I will have to come back later just to read the comments. My worst gift one year was a CD from Hubby and he decided to buy himself a new car on the same day wit out even telling me....To this day I still think the car should of been for me and he could of kept the CD.

Love your card. Great color scheme. Hmmm... I can't remember what the worst b-day present I ever received was and I'm much too young to be having "junior" moments :)

I love how you layered your paper, fabulous card. Leave it to them husbandsto come up with a great gift, mine bought me a couple bar stools one year and I was like, really, I rarely set, especially at the bar and 2) not very personal, but yes with a smile I said Oh Thank You honey!!

These colors are fab! I can't think of a really bad birthday gift to be honest. One time I did get a sweater for Christmas that was an XL and I'm a size small. *LOL* So, it was pretty useless to me.
ReplyDeleteCute! Love the colors and the flower 'stacking' :) I honestly have never received a 'bad' gift...they might be cheesy but I know they come from love so we just laugh about it, forever!

Great card and floral!! My WORST B'day was 10 yrs ago, all my kids were grown and gone and too far away..spent it alone and no presents :( BUT things have changed and I just had the best b'day on Monday the 7th....
ReplyDeleteGreat card! I love the colors! I can't think of a worse present but the last few years, DH hasnt really bought me anything so I guess that IS the worse!! LOL!! To be fair, we dont really celebrate them now that we are older. His birthday is 13 days after mine and I dont buy him anything either.

Love it! I would have to say my worst present ever was an awful shirt from my grandmother, but I didn't have the heart to tell her I hated it.
ReplyDeleteamandawoodau at hotmail dot com
I've never thought to combine purple and brown but it looks fab! Now the strangest present I received was from my grandmother, she gave me a noodle drying rack! I must have made a casual comment about wanting to try an make homemade noodles some day. That gift was over 10 years ago and I still haven't made homemade noodles.

Great card ~ I love the colors you chose. It is very rich looking.
ReplyDeleteI can't recall a "worst gift" for myself so I have to tell you about one my Dad (a retired Police Officer) gave my mom ~ this was before we were old enough to shop with him. He bought her a police scanner! Like she had time to listen with 5 kids. Looks like Dad bought himself a present ~ but it is something we still all laugh about!

My worst present was a box of chocolate candy, from my sweet hubby. Normally, that would have been a great present, but I was on a diet at the time and that was the LAST thing I needed. Bless his heart, he thought he was giving me a nice "treat". We don't really get "gifts" for each other anymore for birthdays or xmas. We get what we "want" or need during the year and then we usually go out to eat at our favorite steak house for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your card. The colors were great and I liked the stacked flower.

I am so glad to see you do these colors together. I would never thought they would look so good together. My worst present would have to be when I got a ugly sweater as a gift. I never did wear it. TFS

Love the color combo and the pretty flower!! My worst bday gift was a ticket to a boring play that practically put me to sleep!
ReplyDeleteserina.nelson@gmail.com
I love that card!!! Simple, yet BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the colors you used. :) LOL - I remember you telling the story about the Birthday gift from the hubby. :) I think my worst Birthday was one when everyone actually forgot. My family was out of town, husband didn't remember and my co-workers thought it was the next day. It worked out in the end, but I've had better days. :) Such a pleasure to be in the hop with you!!! :)

ReplyDeleteLovely card. I don't use Wild Card often but I may have to pull it out now!!

I love the big flower! My worst present ever I rec'd from my husband on our first Christmas together. I needed a warm coat, a week before Christmas a big package arrived in the mail and the two little neighbor girls talked me into peeking, generally I am a very good peeker, but those little naughty's told my husband that I peeked. So on Christmas morning I opened this big beautifully wrapped present and there was an old hunting coat that had blood and dirt all over it! I have never peeked at a gift since!
ReplyDeletejpshirley@ymail.com
Cute card. My worst birthday present was no present at all! My husband totally forgot and came home from work and went and laid down and took a nap! That was many years ago and it's never happened again!

Very nice card!!! The colors look great together!!
ReplyDeleteMy worst gift ever was when I was about 11 years old. I've been begging for a Clown doll named "Tilin" since Christmas of that year... my parents told me that I would get it on my birthday in August. Tilin was a talking clown, with cute clothing, interchageable little disks, it sang, said jokes, etc. for me it was the perfect toy. On my birthday, my parents' present was the first one I opened with so much excitement... but no, they gave me a stuffed clown with a plastic mask face... so dissappointing!! I cried a lot... the next Christmas I got it!! I still have those two clowns with me, they came with me from Peru, and survived my children. Tilin doesn't talk anymore but I love it!! --- Thank you for making me refresh that old memory :)

ReplyDeleteI can't remember a worst gift? I don't usually celebrate my birthday. So I always tell every one not to bother. And during this economy... it's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what size your card base is? It doesn't look very big, but the 6 inch words are bug? Thanks for sharing
Love your color selection. Those layered flowers are great! Gee, my worst bday present? Don't remember getting anything really bad. i guess when i receive a piece of clothing i don't like. yes my husband has learned, he doesn't buy me clothes anymore. =) poor guy. Thanks joy4umetoo@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteWorst gift would have to be when my (now husband) then fiance moved out of state for a new job and was gone on my birthday.. I waited all day to get a phone call from him.. i got a call from his brother, dad, grandma, etc.. all sorts of ppl from his family (the worst part was his dad was with him at the time helping him get all his stuff moved in) and my fiance was the last person to call me... he even called me after midnight so it wasnt even my birthday anymore.. i was so mad at him! luckily he's made up for it since then but i was really sad! :( lol. thanks for the chance to win.

O I love the card Thank U It is so PRETTY! My worse present ever was a vest it was 10 time to big I put it on and was coming out the bath room and the Sleeve Hole got caught on the door knob and jerked me back and almost broke my neck But it ripped it so It ended up in a kitty box... HEHEHHEHE
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors combined to make a marvelous card. I cn't think of a worst birthday gift, but I have a couple of worst Christmas gifts from hubby---a silver lame' jumpsuit when I was a good 8 months pregnant was one and the other was a car muffler.
ReplyDeletedotfree@charter.net
HI. Love your card. I like how you showed all the supplies for the card. My worst gift would have to be an UGLY sweater from my boyfriend when I was in my twenties. I wish I took a picture of it. I returned it (since I would never wear it) and bought 2 coats for the price of the sweater. It was expensive and ugly. I explained to him that it wasn't my style and I would like to get something I knew I would wear.

ReplyDeleteHi, Georgiana! Your card is really pretty. I love the patterned paper you used. It looks perfect with that giant blossom. You question made me laugh because the worst present I ever received was from my ex. It was a toolbox to go in the bed of the pickup truck I was driving at the time! Sheesh! I think that's one of the many reasons that he's my ex! LOL

I haven't really gotten a bad present but it doesn't stop hubby from trying. Every year he asks if whatever we happen to be shopping for (vacuum, floor steamer, washing machine, etc) can also be my gift. Really?? I just buy myself something I've been craving.
ReplyDeleteGreat card! well this wasn't exactly a "gift" but on my 40th birthday (which happened to be a Saturday), hubby went to play golf as usual. He likes to have the first tee time in the summer (6am) so he left at 5am. We live on the corner of a very busy street and I heard honking car horns all morning. when I finally went outside I discovered that he had a 10 foot banner made and put it on our lawn. It said "Lordy lordy Cheryl's 40!" Nice huh?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I really love those colors together.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever gotten a bad Birthday gift. I have a gift all my friends thought was a horrible gift but I loved it. It was 6 years ago my husband bought me a Dyson vacuum. I had been wanting one for over a year but had to save up for it. I was thinking it would take us till Christmas to have the money for it but as I was saving up for it so was my husband. It was the sweetest and the most wonderful thing ever that even though he had no idea why I would want a vacuum he saved up to get it for me. 6 years later I still have it and it works just as great as the first day I got it.
Love the colors!! The worst gift I ever got would have to be a cube of note paper. Won't say who it was from because I love them dearly.
ReplyDeletejanice.strange@windstream.net
Love the colors that you paired together. My worst gift was the sweater my MIL got me for Christmas one year. It was really grandmaish and I was only 19. I had to take it back.

Love your card and the colors you chose!
ReplyDeleteI guess the worst bday present that comes to mind would be the year that my ex-husband bought "me" a cat when he knew specifically that I did not like cats and that I definitely did not want one. Especially since we already had a dog. I did end up liking the cat after I was stuck home all day with it and ended up being the one to take care of it.
Needless to say, he ended up with cat in the divorce and I kept the dog. LOL

What an adorable card!!! Love the flower and the colors! TFS!!! My worst gift ever believe it or not was a gift certificate for a massage. ReplyDeleteSuper cute card!! The worst gift I ever got was a Dyson vacuume cleaner. Now mind you my hubby had been talking about how cool it was. Our vacuume was working just fine. I was not thrilled!! Since then I have stubbed my toe on it 3 times and it came apart while I was lifting it and it fell on the top of my foot and broke it! Needless to say my hubby now does all of the vacuuming!! HA!! Thanks for the chance to win

ReplyDeleteAs far as the worst present goes....I really can't think of one! I guess that's a good thing! :)
Love the flower. I never thought of useing brown and purple together but I will now. My worst present was from my MIL when I first started scrapping. It was one of those huge tablets of stickers like the preteen girls like. (sorry I was almost 50). I still used them on cards and treats for the kids in our family. jls@eplus.net
ReplyDeleteBrown and purple...great combination. I have a friend whose fav color is purple...guess what she's getting???? My worst gift wasn't for my bday....my mother-in-law had received kitchen towels for her bday.....she decided to re-gift and I got them for Christmas!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved your card, for some reason it reminded me of an old fashioned quilt, great job. I would have to say that my worst birthday gift was the year I didn't get one because everyone forgot my birthday including my mother, it took her a week to figure out why I was talking to anyone (I talk a lot and I am very stubborn) so I finally had to tell her she forgot. I only got a store bought cake and no gift that year. I still love her and she doesn't forget my birthday anymore, lol.

ReplyDeleteI love your card, the colors worked beautifully together. My worst present? My husband has not always been in tune with my wishes so there have been a couple. I think there are 2 that really stand out- first one was cream puffs (I don't like cream puffs plus he left them out, so no one could eat them) Second was a bed pillow - not some fancy one, just a cheap bed pillow. The one I had before was perfect. Anyway, this year he got me a Michaels gift card-he's learning! Who says you can't teach an old dog?

ReplyDeleteThe birthday gift that comes to mind has got to be on my 17th birthday my parents had a surprise party for me at our home. There were a bunch of friends - both guys and gals. My mom gave me me a two piece satin camisole set that she must have gotten from sending in wrappers from Caress soap. Seriously, what was she doing? I didn't have a clue what to do with it and I opened it in front of all those people! it was awful! I just wanted to crawl in a hole. I was quite naive'. I was also thinking what a wierd thing for parents to give a 17 year old daughter. I don't know if anyone here will understand this. It seems quite silly now.

Love the card. My worst gift was a tiger blanket (I don't like Black or cats) as a teen.
ReplyDeleteLove the card, but hate the memory of this gift. My then-boyfriend (--> fiancee ---> husband ---> ex-husband ---> miserable man) gave me a pantsuit that was made of fake deer skin. My chubby thighs rub together so the deer skin acted like Velcro and caught itself when I walked. I don't think I made it out of the house wearing that ugly thing. Egads. And my birthday's in the SUMMER, so you KNOW that suit was HOT. YUCK!!

I love your card and the color combination that you used. The purple and brown are great. The worst gift.. I guess I have to say this happened every year until we had our son (he's 6 now); hubby would tell me he had something special planned for my birthday and when the day came he didn't do anything. Now that we have our son he does still forget but my little one reminds Daddy it's Mama's birthday and we have to get her something.

Really pretty card! The colors work well together. My worst birthday present was a set of glass turkey votive holders from my mother-in-law. Guess they'll work in my next garage sale! lol

As far as the worst birthday present ever...I don't know if this qualifies...but last year was terrible.
It isn't about a present I received, it's about my hubby ending up in the ER and then Hospitalized for a week. We celebrated my 50th birthday in the Hospital with him being very ill with Guillian Barre Syndrome. It was terrifying for us, so even though technically it wasn't a b-day present, I was hoping for something really good on my 50th...and that wasn't it! LOL!
I can laugh about it now, because my dear husband recovered fully after about 6 months and he is doing fine now, but it was awful at the time.
Thanks for the chance to win a surprise!

Um ..I don't remember the worst present I have gotten but I have gotten some birthdays with no gift at all but I was okay with that as long as I got cards and I did. :)

Very nice card!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I am having too much fun reading some of these stories. I can't think of a terrible birthday gift that I have got but for our first Valentine's Day Brian gave me a pot (because I always complained everything stuck to my old on). I mean he was listening but just not a super romanic gift!

Gosh, I can't really think of something terrible that I've gotten as a gift...I guess I've gotten some really cheap bath products from the dollar store..not all that bad, but it's all I can think of!

Love the colors. My worst gift was a jogging suit that my sister got me. It was so bedazzled that I truely had never seen anythingn like it. Needless to say I did return it. :0)

Love all the colors! TFS!
ReplyDeleteMy worst gift...definitely, without a doubt, an architectural level. Yep. My hubby bought me a level.
