Buttons and Bows at Little Scrap Pieces

Hello Crafty Friends,

It is hard to believe it is already Friday. I had training today and while we were leaving someone said they were going to the beach and then it dawned on me...it is the weekend. Wohoo! Where did the time go? I am super excited to have a couple days to relax. Only five more weeks of school...this year has flown by!

Today brings a new challenge at Little Scrap Pieces.

The Challenge...Buttons and Bows
Any type of ribbon...crinkle, satin, pleated. One, two, or three buttons...you choose. You even get to pick the theme.
I layered a couple Spellbinders in purples and neon green. The ribbon is woven through  the Splendid Circle.
The focal point is a circular Happy Birthday stamp in purple along with a purple button.  I even tried making some Itty Bitty flowers with a Spellbinders die and added purple glitter glue to some of the petals. Light purple pearls are in the center of each flower.
Materials:
purples and green cardstock
Little Scap Pieces ribbon
purple button
Spellbinders ~ Splendid Circles
Spellbinders ~ Itty Bitty Flowers
Spellbinders ~ Fair Isle

Flowers at Exploring Cricut

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today brings a new challenge at Exploring Cricut.

This Week's Challenge...Flowers
I am a  bit excited to go outside today and see if there are any new flowers blooming after all the rain we had this weekend.

My Design Team Card...
Not only am I thinking about those beautfiul flowers, but I am "thinking of you" too. I received a bicycle for my birthday months ago, but no one else has a bike to go riding with me. I guess I will just have to enjoy alone. : (
My favorite is riding down the Interstate and seeing the variety of colorful wild flowers growing in the median. Knowing that they can not be picked or mowed is even better...they will always grow back.
All the dainty flowers with a pink pearl center were cut from Plantin Schoolbook at 1/2".
Materials:
papers from HUGE scrap box
Sweethearts Cricut cartridge ~ bike (p. 53) cut at 2 1/4"
Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge ~ grass ( p. 69) 1 1/4" and flowers
Create a Critter Cricut cartridge ~ cloud (p.55) cut at 1"
Thinking of You stamp
black ink
white liquid pearls
pink self adhesive pearls

Hope you will join us at Exploring Cricut this week for our "Flowers" challenge. Be sure to stop by and see the Design Team projects. More flowers are blooming there!

Have a great week and stay creative,
Georgiana

Green is Good Blog Hop ~ Let's Celebrate Earth Day!

Something recycled...something repurposed. Perhaps a milk jug turned into a scoop...or a tin can made into a pencil holder. Maybe your kids planted some trees to help the environment...or maybe you did. There are tons of ways to get greener in everyday life. Today we are showing off our creations to celebrate Earth Day 2013.

Factoid...Earth Day is observed on April 22 and was started in the United States in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson to create awareness for the Earth's environment and to encourage conservation efforts. In 1990, Earth Day was taken international, and today, more than 500 million people in 175 countries observe Earth Day.

If you’re just starting here make sure to head over to the beginning with Jessi at My Life in Arts’ n Crafts’. I hear she’s giving away some goodies too!

Here is my Earth Day project...
Love the Earth
I chose this Earth cut since it represents our cause. We need to take care of where we live and how we treat our planet, so it will be a safe and clean place for future generations.
The Earth sits on an action wobble and moves (maybe even rotates a little...just doesn't revolve).
Materials:
papers from scrap box (see below)
Give a Hoot Cricut cartridge ~ Heart Earth (p. 39) 3 1/4" and sentiment 1"
red heart buttons
willow green organdy ribbon
Glossy Accents
action wobble
Earth Day Goal...Use these scraps
Another Factoid...FORTY MILLION TONS of paper is discarded each year in the United States. That's a little less than half of the overall paper used in the country each year - the U.S. uses about 85 million tons of paper and paperboard, and recycles about 45 million tons of that. By most standards that is an excellent recycling rate, but it's almost disheartening to know that "only" wasting forty million tons of paper is a good thing.
Blog Candy...
One lucky person will be randomly selected to win a surprise goodie pack. Leave a comment stating whether or not you recycle and what items if you do. Me...I do recycle! Paper, junk mail, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass, and plastic bags. The winner will be announced later this week.

Here is the line-up...
Holli - http://Sunflowerholli.blogspot.com/

Now head on over to Robin to see her Earth Day project.

Stay creative and please recycle!

The Poetry Spotlight at Exploring Cricut

Hello Crafty (and Teacher) Friends,

Another busy week, but FCAT (our state standardized test to measure math and reading growth) is over. Yippee! Now we wait for results! We have continued working on our poetry unit and currently have 5 different poems completed...Found, 5 W's, Couplets, Quatrains, and Haiku. Next week will will add Tanka and Limericks.

I made this tag for our Poetry Spotlight Reader.
Not sure who to give it to yet or if I should make one for every student.
Here are the covers of the books. I wanted to take photographs of the inside pages, but the power went out at school due to a storm and it was too dark to take pictures. I will be sure to take more when I return to class. You will enjoy their poems! They have done an amazing job and had fun learning at the same time!
I found the spotlight on Twinkle Toes, a  cartridge a friend let me borrow. I glitterized the beam of light to make it look like it is shining down on the reader.
Some faux stitching with a white gel pen, a yellow flower to match the spotlight, and ribbon.
A little inking around the white frame.
Materials:
black, white, and yellow cardstock
Going Places Cricut cartridge ~ tag (p. 90) cut at 6"
Twinkle Toes Cricut cartridge ~ spotlight 3" and background 3 1/2"
Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge ~ font cut at 3/4" and 1/2"
yellow flower
white brad
yellow skittles by Carri
yellow ink
yellow and polka dot ribbon
glitter glue

So, what do you think?
Should I make one for every student, pick top three, or just one?
SO hard to decide!

Take care, stay creative, and enjoy your weekend,
Georgiana

Astronomy Day ~ Use a Star

Hello Crafty Friends,

Thank you for stopping by again! I appreciate the time you give and comments you make.

Do you ever look at a weird holiday list? There seems to be a holiday for every occasion imaginable. This week we are celebrating one of those days...Astronomy Day.

This Week's Challenge...Use a Star
A bit of information...Astronomy Day is an annual event intended to provide a means of interaction between the general public and various astronomy enthusiasts, groups and professionals. This event was started in 1973 by Doug Berger, the president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California. His intent was to set up various telescopes in busy urban locations so that passersby could enjoys views of the heavens. Since then the event has expanded and is now sponsored by a number of organizations associated with astronomy. Astronomy Day also forms part of Astronomy Week, which begins on the preceding Monday.

Here is my Design Team project
I used the following sketch from The Sweet Stop.
Adding a tag to the front of a card creates a different effect. Add a few paper layers and then some ribbon.
One happy hippo holding star-shaped balloons.
Wiggly eyes so he can see better! Check out that star button.
Materials:
My Mind's Eye paper
white, black, and grey card stock
Going Places Cricut cartridge ~ tag
Birthdya Bash Cricut cartridge ~ hippo and stars
Spellbinders ~ banner
polka dot ribbon
green skittles by Carri
blue star button

Happy Birthday Little Man

Good Morning,

Today is a special day...a friend from school is having a BIG birthday party for her son. He is turning 1. What a fun, carefree age! She asked me to make a trio of cards...one for her little man and  two thank you cards for her mom and sister since they offered so much help with preparations. The color theme is blue and green with bow ties. She also made a bunch of projects (banners, a poster, party favors, and a center piece), so hopefully she will find some time to share.

This first card is for Logan...otherwise known as "Little Man".
 A bow tie to match
I used the sketch from Seems a Little Sketchy.
The second and third cards are for her mom and sister. They live in South Florida and traveled here for the long weekend to celebrate.
Love this Spellbinders ~ Fancy Tags Two. It is very elegant. Using matching ink makes the color combinations limitless.
Another bow tie!

I used the sketch from The House that Stamps Built. I just rotated the layout clockwise 90 degrees.
Materials:
Martha Stewart paper ~ Playful Blue and Green pad
white card stock
Doodlecharms Cricut cartridge ~ bow (p. 102) cut at 2"
Birthday Bash Cricut cartridge ~ HB (p. 68) cut at 3 1/2"
Just Because Cards Cricut cartridge ~ Thanks
blue ribbon
green ribbon
blue and green gems
Spellbinders ~ Scalloped Square
Spellbinders ~ Fancy Tags
Spellbinders ~ Scalloped Ovals
blue ink by Martha Stewart

Other Challenges

Hope you have a great weekend,
