Scrapbooking Club ~ Free Choice Card

It is hard to believe that we only meet one more time for the first session. The students have had such an amazing time and the comments from parents have been extremely positive.

During this club meeting, we showed the students that cards can be folded differently to create a unique look. We had a few try. Since I love to layer paper, I try to encourage students to explore with colors and patterns.
We will get a whole new group on November 9th for another six weeks. We plan on creating more cards and layouts, but our theme will change with the holidays. I am looking forward to some turkeys and Christmas trees.

Georgiana

Bag of Treat Giveaway

Do you remember when you were a kid and you went trick or treating? Your bag would be filled with all type of goodies and you couldn't wait until you dumped it out to rummage through it all. I have decided to use that everlasting tradition for this giveaway.

I am super excited to be able to offer this giveaway to the followers of my blog. It was not that long ago, The Halloween Blog Hop, that I actually exceeded 200 fellow crafters. Thank you for visiting and posting your wonderful comments!

I am offering...a bag of treats that you will get to sift through and be part of the kiddie excitement again. You just never know what you are going to find in your loot bag which makes it more thrilling.
  • Please leave a comment and a way to get in touch with you.
  • I would appreciate you posting on your site and sharing that treats are being offered. Be sure to post again that you did for another chance to win.
I will announce the winner on....Monday, November 1st.
Thank you for leaving all the wonderful comments. I truly appreciate your kindness.

Treats Anyone?

I made a few more Halloween cards today. Here is just one.
But WHY?
The reason I have been making all these cards is for the Pediatric Unit at Shands Medical Center at UF. I was thinking about all the sick children that will not be able to go trick or treating, so I decided to make a treat for each patient in the general pediatric unit. There are many units there, but I had to narrow it to just one.

My sister works for doctors that serve the patients at Shands, so I am hoping to be able to give them to her on Thursday evening for a special delivery. I haven't said anything to the unit just in case I couldn't get them all done. I am still very optimistic that I will be able to send a big bunch. If all goes well, I am thinking about which other department I can help at Thanksgiving and Christmas. If anyone is interested in sending any cards to the pediatric patients, please let me know.

I am entering this card into the following challenges:

Pumpkin...Fruit or Vegetable?

Wacky Wednesday #12 - Fruit & Veggie Theme

I had to find out if a pumpkin is actually a fruit or vegetable because I remember a teacher I had many years ago explaining the difference between the two...seeds. Well... a pumpkin has seeds, so by definition it is actually a fruit. Interesting, huh? I actually confirmed that during my research.
  • The base card is white cardstock. Then it is layered with orange and purple cardstock. The decorative striped paper is by Cricut.
  • I used Mini Monsters to cut the pumpkins.
  • Pumpkin Harvest Cuttlebug folder was used to emboss the purple piece of paper and Distressed was used on the pumpkins.
  • Embellishments: ribbon and buttons
  • Happy Halloween sticker mounted on the inside
I made this pumpkin card also using many of the same pieces...Cricut paper, Mini Monsters, self-adhesive ribbon, and wiggly eyes.

I have 3 more sets ready to go. Once I finish them I will announce the "special cause" (the reason why I am making all these Halloween cards). I wanted to be sure I could actually make 30 cards in 10 days, but I feel much more confident that I can make it happen.

Enjoy your crafting time,
Georgiana  : )

A Black and White Halloween

Week 21 the theme is...Black & White

For challenge # 64, make a card, LO or craft project for Halloween using stars, circles, diamonds or crescents.

The paper is from the Alphabet stack by DCWV. I used Mini Monsters for the witch's hat and sentiment. The edges are inked with white chalk.
I am adding this card to the 35 Halloween cards that I want to make for a "special cause". I now have 8 done and it is the weekend, so I can hopefully get a few more completed.

35 Halloween Cards

I have decided to create at least 35 Halloween cards in the next 10 days for a "special cause" and it does not include my students (They have goodie bags that I made for the Halloween Blog Hop that you can see here.). I already created 5 in the past month, so I need 30 more. I made 2 this evening and I am going to post each of them in a different challenge.

I used new paper that I purchased at Michaels. It was on clearance for $2.99 and the sales clerk let me use a 40% off coupon too.  It is Ravenhead Manor by Recollections. The spider was cut from October 31st and the monster beneath was cut from Mini Monsters. I used orange glitter for his belly and horns.

Paper Playtime: For Challenge #21 make any paper project with PUMPKINS OR SPIDER WEBS somewhere on your project.

My Time to Craft: October 31st - Ghosties & Ghoulies and Long Legged Beasties!

I am going to get ready to work on another one or two, so I can meet my goal. Be sure to check back to find out who is going to receive these Halloween cards.

If you could, please participate in the poll on the left sidebar. I am curious to know what your favorite embellishment is. Thanks!

Fall Layouts

Student Scrapbooking Club ~ Day 4
Here are some of the Fall Layouts that the students created today.

The leaves and acrons were cut from Doodlecharms and the pumpkins were cut from Create-a-Critter.

Our administration visited today and they were thrilled with the active participation and the student's outcome. I think we have a hit!

Only 2 more classes and then Session 2 begins with a whole new group.

Past 24 Hours

Wow!
The past 24 hours have been full of treats and surprises.

  • Yesterday I received a package from Robyn at My Pink Stamper that included 2 sets of her stamps that she donated to our scrapbooking Club. THANK YOU ROBYN! The students are going to love them.
  • I received a card in the mail from Stephanie saying "Thank you". She won my Halloween Hop bag of goodies and she sends me a card. Wow! It is super cute!
  • My daughter and I stayed at school for an extra 1 1 /2 hours yesterday getting ready for scrapbooking club. We are going to create Fall themed layouts, so we wanted to make sure we had the papers all ready. Can't wait to see what the students create. I  will be posting them later this evening.
  • I received an e-mail from  Cricut Machine.com that stated they have Cricut cartridges on sale for $19.95. I e-mailed my husband, so when he gets to work maybe he will surprise me and order a few. Hmmm? Maybe...you never know! I told him I wanted...Rock Princess, Once Upon A Princess, Thanksgiving, and Forever Young. What do you think? Are those good ones?
  • If you get a chance, please participate in the poll on the left sidebar. I am curious to know what your favorite embellishments are. Thanks!

Something Cute

When someone tells you to make something "cute" it opens the door to so many opportunities. Well, that is what Robyn said at My Pink Stamper. I decided to use the Doodlecharms cartridge because everything is so adorable.

  • I layered yellow metallic paper with polka dotted paper by Debbie Mumm. I used the Dots Cuttlebug folder to emboss all the circles.
  • I criss-crossed the sheer polka dotted ribbon and tied a button with blue embroidery floss in the center.
  • I cut the gumball machine from Doodlecharms at 2 1/2". The gumballs are various small buttons. I used foam dots to adhere to paper.
  • The "Sweet" is stamped in orange and layered on the yellow metallic paper.
I definitely think it is "cute" and ready for a child. I am thinking about bringing some of my cards to the local hospital wing ~ Pediatric units or a nursing home.  After reading about Robyn's Random Act of Kindness it made me think of what more can I do to help my community. I am sure those sick kids or lonely seniors would love to receive something special.

Let it Snow

Since I love to layer papers, I started with two different types of snowflake designs. I embossed the top one with the Cuttlebug Snowflakes folder. I twisted two pieces of green and white ribbon for a different effect and added two small blue buttons. This was the first time I used embroidery floss/craft thread to tie a bow. It was super easy and I sure do like the look. (I purchased the box of thread at Joanns. It was a pack of 36 Rainbow colors...regular price was $4.99, but I had a coupon for 50% off.)

The snowflakes were cut from Joys of the Season and white glitter was applied to add a sparkle. I used foam dots to attach the snowflake to the front of the card for dimension.

There is a blue stamp ~ Merry Christmas ~on the inside.

Hope you enjoy and thank you for visiting! Remember to leave a comment, so I can come and visit you.

Random Act of Kindness

Welcome Neighbor

The house next door recently sold after being on the market for quite some time and new people moved in about a week ago. I haven't met them yet, but I thought this was the perfect time after reading Robyn's message. I made this card for them.

I used Heirloom glitter paper from KI Memories. The mailbox was cut from Wild Card.

The house was cut from Heritage. The Welcome was cut from Plantin Schoolbook.

I sure hope the new neighbors will like to craft! Only one way to find out...I need to go deliver my card!

What good deed have you done today?
I always tell my students you could change someone's day by being kind and using their manners. I hope they always remember, especially after they leave my class and go on to middle school.

Our group of students met for the third session which marked the half way point for Session one. We allowed them to make Halloween cards.

The students were supplied:
cardstock, Cricut decorative paper, ribbon, stickers, buttons, Cricut cuts,  and embossing folders.

It always amazing me what kids can come up. They are so creative, especially when you allow them the freedom to explore.

A Challenge Marathon

Have you ever watched an entire weekend of Burn Notice or Law and Order? What about Mythbusters or House? You just can't get enough and watch the same show all weekend even though you have seen all the episodes before.

Last night I wrote a list of 17 different challenges and I decided since the kids went away to Disney with the grandparent for the weekend, I was going to try to make as many as I could before they returned.

I was going to have a Challenge Marathon of my own.
This card was created for my husband's birthdy. Unfortunately no surprises for him. I used the Celebrations cartridge and it was the first time I used vellum (on the bottom half below the ribbon). What a neat paper!

I used Joys of the Season cartridge to cut the 3" Christmas tree and sentiment. The papers are from the Cricut Christmas Cheer pack. I added silver gems and white glitter to the base. I sure do like the effect of glitter on a card! This was my first time using it  as pizzaz.

I used the Pagoda cartridge to cut the 3" doll on p. 27. I love the effect of the corner punch on the front of the card. LOVE was cut at 1 1/2" from Plantin Schoolbook.

The Native Americans were cut from the My World cartridge. The paper is from Cricut Doodlecharms pack. Harvest buttons and ribbon were included on the cover and inside. I still need to draw their faces, but will wait until morning when I am not so tired. : )

Wow! What a fun day! I sure hope that tomorrow I will be able to work on a few more projects. Enjoy the time you have to craft and be with your family.

Surf's Up

Our scrapbooking club met for the second time and all the students attended again. How cool is that! This time Yvette (The Little Things) and I had the students create a summer layout. We used the stack of paper, stickers, and rubs donated by Tricia at our local scrapbook store, Priceless Scrapbooks.

All the students received a layout page (they were able to choose from among 4 or 5 different designs)  and 4-5 squares of various colors/patterns. Some students embossed their papers and others used stickers or Cricut cuts.
THANK YOU Tricia for your generosity!

This is a wonderful picture of Yvette helping the girls. (I am taking the pictures, so I am not in any of them. Maybe next time.)

The students loved learning about the Cricut and thought it was amazing that it cut all the images with the touch of a button or two. Lots of oohs and aaahs! Next week we will teach them even more about the machine and its capabilities and let them do some more cutting on their own.

Next week we are planning on making an Autumn/Halloween card.

Terrific Tuesday's Guest

A Special Crafter Visits on a Terrific Tuesday
Bio:
My name is Jean Knox. I am 28 years old and have been married to my wonderful husband for 9 years. We live in Huntsville, Alabama. I am a stay at home wife currently. I did work in the legal field as a paralegal for years, but I stopped working about 2 years ago. We don't have any children of our own, but I scrapbook for my 6 year old niece, Kaylee. I began scrapbooking when she was born, because I wanted to make scrapbooks for her to have when she was older. Since then, it has grown to my obsession with scrapbooking, card making and all paper crafts. I started my blog in January 2010 and I really enjoy it. I try to work on something crafty everyday and I would love to open a scrapbooking or crafting store one day. For now, I love scrapbooking for my family and friends and sharing my creations and ideas with all of my blogging friends as well.

You must check out Jeans's site . She is celebrating Halloween with 31 days of special treats and giveaways. She has amazing projects! The Skeleton Donut Men are so cool!

Project: Monster Mash Layout

-The mad scientist on this page was hand drawn, painted and cut out by my husband. I gave him an idea of what I was wanting to put on the layout and he designed him for me.

-I then added some green colored skittles and some green dots cut from the George and Basic Shapes Cartridge around the page to appear as bubbles from his beaker. I pop dotted the circles as well to give them some dimension.
-All of the cuts on the second page were made from the Mini Monsters cartridge as follows:
Spider and Web on page 74
Monsters from pages 29, 35, 42 and 40

-I used google eyes, a black marker and a white opaque pen to add details to the cuts and the web to add detail to them.

-The background paper for the picture spots is a paper called Spooky Dots made by The Paper Studio. I then cut a purple piece to put over the mat and added some small green rhinestones to the corners as well.
-Finally, I computer generated some of the song lyrics from the Monster Mash using the font called A Charming Font for the pages. I had to rephrase them just a little to fit my page with more than one monster. Page one says: "I was working in the lab late one night, when my eyes beheld an eerie sight, For my monsters from their slabs began to rise and suddenly to my surprise" Page Two says: "They did the mash! They did the Monster Mash!" I printed these onto the same green shade of cardstock that I used for the bubbles and cut around them before attaching them to the page to finish it off.

If you would like to be a guest crafter, please let me know. I would love to show off your work to others. Remember, in education we do not steal ideas...we share.
