Jen's Birthday Blog Hop

It's the Purple Scrapbooker's Day...that is Jen's day for a fabulous blog hop with wonderful projects to help celebrate her birthday. If you came from Star's Paper Passion you are doing a great job hopping along. If you just happened to visit today thank you for coming back, but why not join in and enjoy the crafts and goodies.
I chose Jen's favorite color (purple) and my favorite color (brown) to create a birthday card.
Here are the supplies I started with.
I layered the My Mind's Eye paper and then added the floral.
This is a close-up of the floral. I pieced together the brown, purples, and blue florals and secured with a small brown brad.

The sentiment was cut from the Wild Card cartridge at 6 1/2". Small brown brads coordinate with the floral and the foam pieces add dimension.
Happy Birthday was also cut from the Wild Card cartridge (6").
Happy Birthday Jen!

What is a blog hop without goodies? Since this is a birthday celebration, the present (prize) will be a surprise. Of course, it will be crafty related (paper, ribbon, buttons, gems, etc). Here is a little twist...usually everyone asks what your favorite/best gift was, but for today I want to know the worst birthday present you ever received. Not too long ago I posted about the "tool" my husband gave me. It was for that time I ended up in a drain field and needed to escape from my Jeep. Hmmm...still hoping that doesn't ever happen and I never need to use the Houdini tool.

Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you. You may leave your blog and/or e-mail address. Looking forward to hearing your stories.
Be sure to head over to Tracy at Craft Junkie Too for another fabulous project.

Here is the line-up:

Take Care,
Georgiana

  2. Great card! Love the color combination:)
My worst present ever was a sweater that was the wrong size (I know that happens all the time) my husband was upset with me when I went to exchange it for a different size, he said I didn't like his taste. He hasn't bought me any clothes since:( I think he just wanted an excuse. That was when we were first married 25 years ago!

  3. Pretty card, great colors. One year I just couldn't think of anything to tell my husband to get me. So I said... Buy me a Band Saw (I knew he wanted one so it was a joke) Jokes on me, I got a Band Saw!

  4. I love the card, it is really pretty.
My worst present. The first year my husband and I were married. My mother in law gave me a statue of a girl holding a basket.
It was ugly and wasn't even useful. The basket couldn't hold anything. Not anything that I would ever have in my house. I ended up giving it away. :)

Thank you for joining my birthday hop!!

  6. Great card! It was great you decided to use purple. My worst present I ever received was jumper cables. My husband thought I would need them someday. It was thoughtful of him, but I have yet to use them. Maybe some scrapping stuff would have been a better idea!

  14. These colors are fab! I can't think of a really bad birthday gift to be honest. One time I did get a sweater for Christmas that was an XL and I'm a size small. *LOL* So, it was pretty useless to me.

  20. I've never thought to combine purple and brown but it looks fab! Now the strangest present I received was from my grandmother, she gave me a noodle drying rack! 22. Great card ~ I love the colors you chose. It is very rich looking.

I can't recall a "worst gift" for myself so I have to tell you about one my Dad (a retired Police Officer) gave my mom ~ this was before we were old enough to shop with him. He bought her a police scanner! Like she had time to listen with 5 kids. Looks like Dad bought himself a present ~ but it is something we still all laugh about!

  23. My worst present was a box of chocolate candy, from my sweet hubby. Normally, that would have been a great present, but I was on a diet at the time and that was the LAST thing I needed. Bless his heart, he thought he was giving me a nice "treat". We don't really get "gifts" for each other anymore for birthdays or xmas. We get what we "want" or need during the year and then we usually go out to eat at our favorite steak house for the occasion.
Thanks for sharing your card. The colors were great and I liked the stacked flower.

  30. I love the big flower! My worst present ever I rec'd from my husband on our first Christmas together. I needed a warm coat, a week before Christmas a big package arrived in the mail and the two little neighbor girls talked me into peeking, generally I am a very good peeker, but those little naughty's told my husband that I peeked. So on Christmas morning I opened this big beautifully wrapped present and there was an old hunting coat that had blood and dirt all over it! I have never peeked at a gift since!

My worst gift ever was when I was about 11 years old. I've been begging for a Clown doll named "Tilin" since Christmas of that year... my parents told me that I would get it on my birthday in August. Tilin was a talking clown, with cute clothing, interchageable little disks, it sang, said jokes, etc. for me it was the perfect toy. On my birthday, my parents' present was the first one I opened with so much excitement... but no, they gave me a stuffed clown with a plastic mask face... so dissappointing!! I cried a lot... the next Christmas I got it!! I still have those two clowns with me, they came with me from Peru, and survived my children. Tilin doesn't talk anymore but I love it!! --- Thank you for making me refresh that old memory :)

I waited all day to get a phone call from him.. i got a call from his brother, dad, grandma, etc.. all sorts of ppl from his family (the worst part was his dad was with him at the time helping him get all his stuff moved in) and my fiance was the last person to call me... he even called me after midnight so it wasnt even my birthday anymore.. i was so mad at him! luckily he's made up for it since then but i was really sad! :( lol. thanks for the chance to win.

  44. HI. Love your card. I like how you showed all the supplies for the card. My worst gift would have to be an UGLY sweater from my boyfriend when I was in my twenties. I wish I took a picture of it. I returned it (since I would never wear it) and bought 2 coats for the price of the sweater. It was expensive and ugly. I explained to him that it wasn't my style and I would like to get something I knew I would wear.

  47. I haven't really gotten a bad present but it doesn't stop hubby from trying. Every year he asks if whatever we happen to be shopping for (vacuum, floor steamer, washing machine, etc) can also be my gift. Really?? I just buy myself something I've been craving.

  48. Great card! well this wasn't exactly a "gift" but on my 40th birthday (which happened to be a Saturday), hubby went to play golf as usual. He likes to have the first tee time in the summer (6am) so he left at 5am. We live on the corner of a very busy street and I heard honking car horns all morning. when I finally went outside I discovered that he had a 10 foot banner made and put it on our lawn. It said "Lordy lordy Cheryl's 40!" Nice huh?

  49. Beautiful card! I really love those colors together.
I don't think I have ever gotten a bad Birthday gift. I have a gift all my friends thought was a horrible gift but I loved it. It was 6 years ago my husband bought me a Dyson vacuum. I had been wanting one for over a year but had to save up for it. I was thinking it would take us till Christmas to have the money for it but as I was saving up for it so was my husband. It was the sweetest and the most wonderful thing ever that even though he had no idea why I would want a vacuum he saved up to get it for me. 6 years later I still have it and it works just as great as the first day I got it.

I guess the worst bday present that comes to mind would be the year that my ex-husband bought "me" a cat when he knew specifically that I did not like cats and that I definitely did not want one. Especially since we already had a dog. I did end up liking the cat after I was stuck home all day with it and ended up being the one to take care of it.

Needless to say, he ended up with cat in the divorce and I kept the dog. LOL

The birthday gift that comes to mind has got to be on my 17th birthday my parents had a surprise party for me at our home. There were a bunch of friends - both guys and gals. My mom gave me me a two piece satin camisole set that she must have gotten from sending in wrappers from Caress soap. Seriously, what was she doing? I didn't have a clue what to do with it and I opened it in front of all those people! it was awful! I just wanted to crawl in a hole. I was quite naive'. I was also thinking what a wierd thing for parents to give a 17 year old daughter. I don't know if anyone here will understand this. It seems quite silly now.

  84. Love the card, but hate the memory of this gift. My then-boyfriend (--> fiancee ---> husband ---> ex-husband ---> miserable man) gave me a pantsuit that was made of fake deer skin. My chubby thighs rub together so the deer skin acted like Velcro and caught itself when I walked. I don't think I made it out of the house wearing that ugly thing. Egads. And my birthday's in the SUMMER, so you KNOW that suit was HOT. YUCK!!

Oh well. I'm glad IT and the guy are HISTORY!!

  85. Oh to funny that you want to hear our worst presents. My worst gift was prob a pair of crushed velvet tennis shoes....and they were PURPLE! My husband thought I would like them because my favorite color is purple, I love shoes, and I go running all the time. Yeah not so great.

  88. I love your card! Now I am going to use those colors together too! My worst gift was a lovely one from a friend. It's just that I had given it to her over two years earlier and she had left my gift receipt in the box! I wish she would have returned it for something she liked!

  89. I love your card and the color combination that you used. The purple and brown are great. The worst gift.. I guess I have to say this happened every year until we had our son (he's 6 now); hubby would tell me he had something special planned for my birthday and when the day came he didn't do anything. Now that we have our son he does still forget but my little one reminds Daddy it's Mama's birthday and we have to get her something.

  90. Really pretty card! The colors work well together. My worst birthday present was a set of glass turkey votive holders from my mother-in-law. And if they weren't gaudy enough, she went on to tell me that her sister bought them at a garage sale and gave them to my mil and since she didn't like them thought that I would! Guess they'll work in my next garage sale! lol

  92. Loved the color combo you used in your card. My worst present was a chain saw from my hubby, I did say I wanted one but who would translate that into a birthday present????

  97. The card is really gorgeous!
I would never think of brown and purple together, but it looks great and you've really taught me something!
As far as the worst birthday present ever...I don't know if this qualifies...but last year was terrible.
It isn't about a present I received, it's about my hubby ending up in the ER and then Hospitalized for a week. We celebrated my 50th birthday in the Hospital with him being very ill with Guillian Barre Syndrome. It was terrifying for us, so even though technically it wasn't a b-day present, I was hoping for something really good on my 50th...and that wasn't it! LOL!
I can laugh about it now, because my dear husband recovered fully after about 6 months and he is doing fine now, but it was awful at the time.
Thanks for the chance to win a surprise!

  101. LOL! I am having too much fun reading some of these stories. I can't think of a terrible birthday gift that I have got but for our first Valentine's Day Brian gave me a pot (because I always complained everything stuck to my old on). I mean he was listening but just not a super romanic gift!

  103. Love the colors. My worst gift was a jogging suit that my sister got me. It was so bedazzled that I truely had never seen anythingn like it. Needless to say I did return it. :0)

My worst gift...definitely, without a doubt, an architectural level. Yep. My hubby bought me a level.
