A Little Note from an Ant

Happy Friday!

Earlier this week I had a student come over for some crafting time. Throughout the school year we would chat about projects and she was curious to learn more, so I spoke with her mom and said I would love to show her some techniques. I let her explore with water colors and distress inks. We had a great time!

This background is what I had created when I showed her how to do blending with distress inks. I actually had started with the green on the top and then decided if I rotated it I could make a night sky.

The ant with apple is by Miss Kate Cuttables. He is popped up along with the white stars on foam dots. The stamped sentiment is by Scrappy Moms Stamps ~ More Mini Messages and glitter silver skittles by Carri in the other lower corner.

I added Wink of Stella clear glitter to create a sparkle on my stars.
Be sure to stop by Die Cuttin' Diva for this week's challenge...ant/picnic. You still have timr to join the challenge. We have an awesome sponsor too!

This week sure did fly by! Hope you enjoy the weekend!

July Challenge at Miss Kate Cuttables

Hello Everyone!

I am running a little late this morning...I have been on this fitness kick for the past week. I have been walking, riding my bike, researching  infused waters and foods high in alkalinity (versus acidic foods). That sure takes up some extra time, but it will be worth it to be healthy! I am motivated to lose a few pounds before heading back to school.

Today I also want to  share the new challenge at Miss Kate Cuttables...remember a free file everyday!

This Month's Challenge is...
Summertime

Here is my Design Team project...
I was thinking about water to help stay cool since the temperature has been near 100 degrees everyday. What could be better than swimming in a pool!

The stamped sentiment is by Docerela Creations ~ Summertime stamp set.
Hope you will join us at Miss Kate Cuttables for the "Summertime" challenge. The other design team members  sure are enjoying summer too. Be sure to check out ALL the variety!

Thanks for stopping by!

Heat Embossing with Distress Ink Blending

Hello Everyone,

Welcome back and thanks for stopping by. After watching a few TV marathons of my favorite shows (Law and Order and Numbers) this past week ,I decided to watch a crafty video. I found one at Prairie Ink & Paper by Amy  Rysavy.  I heard her name mentioned once in a craft class I took at My Favorite Things, but didn't real know much else about her. Wow! She does fabulous work. I think I will be checking out more of her videos rather than watching TV marathons this week, especially since I only have three weeks left before going back to school.

The video I watched was Distress Ink Blending. She made it look quite simple, so I decided to try the technique again. The key...choose the right colors for blending.

This first card I used the Avery Elle stamp set Petals & Stems. I  applied heat to the white embossing powder then added the distress inks using the small round blending tool. I had about five or six different colors that all sounded great, but narrowed it down to only 3 that worked nicely together. I cut Amazing out of white foam to add dimension. In the video, Amy said she has a problem with using foam. I place mine to the side of my bottom plate (I still use my original Cuttlebug.) and haven't had any issues. Lastly, I added Clear Glitter Wink of Stella and a few sequins.

Since I really liked how the first one came out, I decided to make another using different colors and stamp (MFT splatter stamp set ~ Distressed Patterns). This used only three inks again, but the colors blended making it look like five. I added water droplets afterwards and dabbed them dry to create the splotched look.

Lastly, I used black glitter foam and cut out the sentiment and butterfly. A trail of gems are fluttering behind.
Be sure to come back again tomorrow for my Miss Kate Cuttables daily post.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Trendy Twine Guest Designer Announcement

Hello Crafty Freinds,

Not that long ago there was Guest Designer Call for Trendy Twine and I eagerly jumped at the opportunity to apply. I even got carried away with the application requirements. I think you only had to submit two projects. Well...I couldn't decide which color twine to use since there are way too many choices, so I made more!

Here are the various projects I made for the Trendy Twine Guest Designer Call. Definitely a couple extras, but it was worth it because I have been selected! Yippee! I will be a Trendy Twine Guest Designer in September.

The first two projects I made were for my daughter and her two roommates. They just started college at University of North Florida this summer. I used Blue Berry twine.

The boxes were each embossed with a different design and filled with Hershey Kisses.

The school colors are blue and grey. Each candy tube was filled with Skittles. 2020 represents the year they are to graduate with their undergraduate degrees.

Here is the second set... I created two birthday cards.
I used Strawberry Cupcake twine with the owl.

I used Pink Licorice twine with the hippo.

Both the nerdy owl and baby hippo are Miss Kate Cuttables files.

I used the following sketch for both birthday cards.
Looking forward to seeing the other Trendy Twine Guest Designer's projects. Be sure to check out who else was selected on the Twine It Up! site.

Thanks for stopping by!

A School Project ~ Kagan Mats

Hello Everyone,

Today I was thinking about all the projects I created in June (I almost got one completed each day, but the cruise prevented me from making a few projects towards the end) and I was contemplating if I should give it a try for the rest of this month. I saw Sharon from Mee Mee's Creations is on a roll already and doing it, so why not! It is a good challenge!

Now, I must warn you though...not all the projects may be cards, treat bags, or layouts. I am going to throw in a few school projects. Starting with this one I have been working on for the past two days. I went to a training at the beginning of summer break and did not want to buy the commercial products, so...I made something to match my class.

Here is the product...
Kagan mats

Here is my version...
My class colors are black, lime green, yellow, and white. I used my Cricut Expression ~ Plantin Schoolbook cartridge for the letters and numbers.

This is the reversed side. I used Publisher and then printed the four corners. I just need to laminate them for durability.
Looking forward to using them in the class.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for an important announcement!

July's Sketch at Die Cuttin' Divas

Hello Everyone!

I am back and ready to go after taking a cruise in the Caribbean for a week. What a fabulous trip my hubby and I had. We went snorkeling, sail boating, and cave exploring in three different ports. I am sure that will be the last vacation we take for quite a while since the daughter is now in college. She came home for the holiday weekend, which was a perfect way to wrap up our weekend. Now I am busy again at the craft table!

The new challenge at Die Cuttin' Divas was posted yesterday and I wasn't quite prepared. I started to work on 5 scrapbook pages from the end of Senior year, but they still need a few finishing touches. Then, I created my DT project. Now I am ready to share!

This Week's Challenge...
July's Sketch

Here is my Design Team project...
My daughter has been waiting for mail to arrive in her dorm post box. Can you believe...Grandma beat me to it! This cutie is going out in the mail today, so she should have it before the end of the week. I am going to put a few lotto tickets in it just for fun.

The rubber duck is by Miss Kate Cuttables. The sailor's hat is by KaDoodle Bug Designs. The stictched circle is by My Favorite Things.

The stamped sentiment is by Scrappy Moms Stamps ~ See You Later Alligator, stamp set. Clover skittles by Carri are on both sides of the speech bubble (found it in my Silhouette library and adjusted it to fit my needs).
Other Challenges:

Hope you will join us at Die Cuttin' Divas this week for the "July Sketchchallenge. The other design team members sure know how to interpret a layout. Be sure to check out the variety!
