It's Graduation Time at Little Scrap Pieces

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today was a somber day for many people in our school district. We are facing severe budget difficulties and the future is looking glum as layoffs must be made. Unfortunately, the people that live in my community are not always supportive of education. They feel taxes are already too high or they don't have children in the system any more, so they shouldn't have to pay. Remember...I live in Florida and this area is retirement city. The current students must suffer the consequences.

Althought the budget is a depressing topic, graduation is right around the corner. Seniors last day was today and graduation ceremonies are next week. Yeah!

Little Scrap Pieces wants to honor all those graduating!
Here is my Design Team project...
 The sketch I used
My husband gave this card to his niece since she graduated from high school this year. Her school colors were red, white, and blue.
Materials:
Bo Bunny pattern paper
white and blue card stock
Happy Graduation Cricut cartridge ~ sentiment and cap
red ribbon
red and blue gems

Hope you will join us Little Scrap Pieces for our "Graduation" challenge.

"Recycle It" at Whimsical Designs

Hello Crafty Friends,

Welcome  back for another Whimsical Wednesday.

Today we have a new challenge and it is a wonderful opportunity to reuse some of those old items you may have laying around in the kitchen drawers. I asked the other DT members what they were using and I was told...toilet paper tubes, bottle caps, coffee stir sticks, etc. Hmmm...that got me thinking...maybe I could use birthday candles or straws.

Here is my "Recycle It" project...
A little treat for someone so sweet! Just need to decide what type of treat.
Any suggestions on your favorite candies?
 Matching tag
I bought this container of black and white flowers the other day at Michaels since it was on clearance ($2.99 ~ regular $9.99).
I dusted the inside and outside of the container, and then removed the label. A strip of red card stock and pattern paper now decorate the outside along with a Spellbinders and apple.
The top is covered with matching pattern paper and a shadow lays underneath. Polka dot ribbon is tied to the handle.
 Materials:
clear paint container
red, black, and white card stock
school paper
Give a Hoot Cricut cartridge ~ apple
red and white polka dot ribbon
red and white twine
red and black inks
Whimsical Designs stamp

This Week's Sponsor...
Inky Impressions
$10 gift certificate

Hope you will join us this week at Whimsical Designs for the "Recycle It" challenge. I am looking forward to seeing what you will reuse to reduce the amount of debris going into the landfills.

Can't wait to see what you create!

And the Winner is...The One With the Best...

Hello Crafty Friends,

Welcome back and thank you for visiting.
I hope you enjoyed my patriotic minis, sporty skunk, and firecracker Twizzler treats. I have a bunch of fabulous projects this week that I am looking forward to sharing. I sure hope you will join me each day.

Today brings a new challenge at Die Cuttin' Divas, so here is another opportunity for you to be creative.

The Challenge...Create a Shape Card

My Design Team project...
Trophy cards for my class. I thought it would be fun to do class superlatives and have the students vote for... The One With the Best...
 Materials ready for assembly

I wasn't sure about this card at first because it opens from the top. I am using the back of the card as the base to allow the front to remain upright.
Students will vote for...Best Athlete, Next American Idol, Most Artisitic, Biggest Fashionista, etc. Each student will get to vote for anyone in the class and I will tally up the votes. Then a couple days later I will surprise the students with a trophy card. Should be fun!
I am thinking about writing the winner's name on the white rectangular base. What do you think?
 Materials:
red, blue, white, and gold card stock
Wild Card 2 Cricut cartridge ~ trophy (p. 67) cut at 4 3/4"
Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge ~ 2013 cut at 1/2"
blue ink
white Enamel Accents

Thank You Patriots

Hello Crafty Friends,

Happy Memorial Day to those in the USA!
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.

Here is a patriotic "Thank You"
 My minis are 3" x 3".
I finally used the sewing machine to stitch around the edges. Not perfect, but I am trying! Eager to trying some other types of stitches now.
These flowers are layered with foam tape to give dimension.
Materials:
kraft card stock
Bo Bunny pattern paper
All Mixed Up Cricut cartridge ~ Thank You (p. 127) cut at 1 1/4"
K&Company Americana stickers
red and white twine

white ribbon
Singer sewing machine and multi colored thread

Happy Bank Day to my UK friends!
A bank holiday is a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Commonwealth countries, other European countries such as Switzerland, and a colloquialism for a public holiday in Ireland. There is no automatic right to time off on these days, although banks close and the majority of the working population is granted time off work or extra pay for working on these days, depending on their contract. Many large shops open on bank holidays, when many people have a day off for shopping.
Enjoy Shopping!

Here Comes Summer...Enjoy!

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today brings a new challenge at Exploring Cricut.

The Challenge...Here Comes Summer

Here is my Design Team project...
I decided to make treat bags for my students for the last day of school. I had asked to loop with my group, but I was told the other day that I will be staying in 4th grade. Not a problem! The next group will be a challenge, but who said teaching was easy? I will be able to "Enjoy Summer" before worrying.
The perfect candy for summer...Sour Patch Watermelons and Lemon Heads. Time to pucker up those lips! Found them at Walgreens.
Each bag has at least an individual serving (15 - 20 pieces). Time to get some more of these bags since I have been making treats for my students. A trip to the flea market will be planned next weekend...100 bags for $2 - $4 depending on the booth that is open.
Busy cutting out all the pieces and adhering them together.

I'm a Skittles Designer at ABusyBee

Hello Crafty Friends,

Today I am a special Guest Designer at ABusyBee. Carri asked me to showcase her skittles and I jumped at the chance to share. I have been using Carri's skittles since she created them and I have truly enjoyed the variety of colors and flare it adds to my projects.
  Here is my Skittle's project...
I used Rudolph Red glitter skittles around my Vintage Lace Spellbinder, which is adhered with Zip Dry to the front of my boutique (treat) box. This would be perfect for an end-of-the-year teacher gift.
I cut out circles (cut at 3/4" which fits the bottom of the Hershey Kiss) and then stamped each one with A+. A glue pen was used to adhere each circle to the bottom of the Hershey Kiss. I used crimped red scrap paper to fill the bottom of the clear treat box.
The twine bow secures the top flap.
 Materials:
white, red, and black card stock
Spellbinders ~ Vintage Lace Motifs
Give a Hoot Cricut cartridge ~ apple (p. 35) cut at 2"
Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge ~ circles cut at 3/4"
Pink by Design stamps ~ School is Cool set
skittles by Carri
red and white twine by American Craft
Hershey Kisses

Now...onto the fun part!
Followers that comment on both Carri's Guest Design post and this Guest Design post will be entered to win skittles!
