Birthday Challenge

Good Evening Everyone,

Today was a lovely Sunday. We took my sister and one of her daughters to lunch at the Olive Garden. One of my favorite restaurants. After dropping them off we went to the movies to see Captain America (She didn't want to go with her knee pain.). I made a quick stop at Michaels and picked up two paper stacks since they were on clearance for $2.49 & $2.99. Yeah! Don't forget the 20% off coupon this week you can print from their website. Double yeah!

I also worked on a card today for my husband's nephew. His 21st birthday is this week, so I made him a "manly" card. Now we are trying to decide when are you too old to get gifts. We have 7 nieces and nephews between the two of us and we want to set an age to sending them gifts. We previously discussed 18, but increased the age to 21 since he is still living at home. Any suggestions? Do you set age limits for anyone?

Just a Note from a Little Birdie

How are ya'll doing?

I hope you have had a good week and are getting ready for the weekend. No big plans here. Many of you may remember my sister was in a horrible car accident about 4 months ago. I am taking her to Shands this Saturday for a MRI. She is still experiencing LOTS of pain in her knee and we are hoping she will not need more surgery, but that is not looking so good. The doctors did not do X-rays of her knee since they were focused on both her broken feet and may have missed a major injury. She has been complaining at each check-up, but they continued to tell her it was just nerve damage. Please keep her in your thoughts. Thanks!

I worked on a card this evening for the MAG Create-a-Critter p. 59 Challenge, but it already closed. Bummer! I think I should write the deadline down when I list the challenges of the week. Sounds like a new plan and a new column in my notebook. Luckily, I found another challenge...Queen of My Craftroom. The Monday Mojo challenge is Create a Critter ~ any animal. Yeah!

Wish Big with a Sweet Treat

Hello Crafty Friends,

One of my friends from school had a birthday the other day and I did not give her a card yet since I have not seen her lately; therefore, I knew I had to make her a special card. I thought tying in the new Die Cuttin' Diva's challenge would be a great opportunity. I decided to make something sweet that would make Buddy from the Cake Boss proud. Have you seen his show? Aren't those cakes he makes masterpieces!?!?! I have a teacher friend that actually met him a couple years ago and has a picture with him.

 The challenge this week at Die Cuttin' Divas is to use some *Sweet Treats* on your card.

You're as Sweet as a Lollipop

I wanted to take a moment and share a card I made this evening. During the past 2 -3 weeks I have been very busy making cards for two orders (20 birthday and 10 thank you cards), creating projects for a few different blog hops, and then working on Design Team commitments, so I haven't had too much time to submit to the current challenges. Since I finally have a week off, I decided I was going to find a few challenges that I could participate in.

I made a lollipop card using the Mojo Monday sketch. How yummy!

Today I created a card using a sunburst style. It is very simple, yet elegant.

You use 1 X 4 inch strips and cut them from corner to corner. Then alternate the color patterns as desired. You will need to allow the paper to hang over the top and side edges before gluing. Next, you will trim the excess pieces off. Finally...decorate with embellishments.

Happy Hoo-lidays: Christmas in July Hop, Day 2

Today I made a wall hanging instead of a card.

 I bought this plain green plaque at Hobby Lobby after Christmas last year for 70% off. Do you ever do that? You buy something because it is on sale and you just know you will find a use for it later. I do that ALL the time! I can't pass up a great deal!

I used Hoot 'n Holler to cut out the owl at 4" and his hat at 2". The green and blue paper is K&Company holiday stack from last season.

 The trees  were cut from Doodlecharms at 3", 3 1/2", 4", and 4 1/2". I embossed them with Swiss Dots and then inked both the tops and trunks.  

I created a 2" topper from Hoot 'n Holler, provided the owl with a present, and created snow with my Fiskar paper edger and Swirls folder. There are a few blue and red buttons in the corners.

I hope you have enjoyed all the projects and will come back once more for the final day. I would like to say "Thank you again" for stopping by and sharing your holiday memory. I remember when I lived up north we would go sledding down the middle of the road since we lived on a steep hill. You didn't have to worry about cars because they couldn't make it up the icy roads and they would just slip backwards. It is strange...I do NOT like cold weather any more and I do not miss the snow either.

Here is my project for today:

I created 5 holiday cards using 3 Birds on Parade. I just received this cartridge within the last 2 weeks and this was the first time I used it. These are the cutest cuts and they are super easy to piece together.

I Made Sketches...Then the Cards

Hello Crafty Friends,

I have enjoyed this week very much and it isn't even over yet. My daughter and I have plans to return to the beach since the weather is suppose to be nice. I  have made a few cards, then learned a couple tricks while exploring on the computer. I made a button for the Die Cuttin' Divas showcasing and I created two sketches. I am hoping to create more and be able to post them on my Sketch page. The following cards were made using those sketches. What do you think?

Die Cuttin' Diva Shaped Card

Hello Crafty Friends,

Are you ready for another challenge? I am always looking for a new one to try. This week at Die Cuttin' Divas the challenge is to create a shaped card...any color, theme, or size (except for square or rectangle). How fun!

I decided to make another card for school. It is hard to believe I head back in less than 4 weeks since it seems like I just started my vacation (Actually, I did just start last week since I have been in lots of meetings.).

I thought this card would be perfect for all my new 5th grade students. I can change the colors of the books, so I can use some more of my scraps. I should be able to make 20 - 23 more in a few hours.

Shaker Card Pictorial **Winner Added**

Hello Crafty Friends!

Thank you for visiting this past weekend during the Christmas in July Hop. Each day I created a different card, but I did not have the opportunity to explain how to make a shaker card from Day 3. I now have pictures and instructions to show you how I made this card.

First, you will need to purchase the Shake It card pouches. I bought mine at the local scrapbooking store. There are 10 in a package and they do come in various shapes and sizes. Here is the link to find out more...Impression-Obsession. 

Next, I used the Wild Card cartridge to cut my card base from a solid colored piece of cardstock at 4 3/4". I selected the "stitched card" on p. 35.  My small pouch fits perfectly. If you do not own the cartridge, you can make your own window with a square punch or you can purchase the overlays with the shaker pouches. 

Now, peal the sticker from the self-adhesive shaker window pouch and align over the cut-out square. Press on the edges around the window to make sure the two pieces are sticking together firmly.

Once the window pouch is set, you can add the front liner and frame. Be sure to save the square piece of paper from the liner. You will use this to seal in the glitter. I used the Wild Card cartridge to cut both these pieces at 4 3/4".  

You are ready to begin the next step.

• First, you will need to find an image or digi  (approximately 1" in size) for your window. Be sure to adhere the picture well or the glitter will stick to the edges. I used Doodlecharms to cut a gift (p. 109) at 1 1/2".  
•     Next, pour a small amount of glitter into the window as it is laying on a flat surface. I am using red shaped glitter that I purchased at Michaels on clearance for my window.
• Then, adhere the square window piece to the inside left flap. I used a glue pen and carefully went around the edges of the square. It will align over the square nicely.

Here is what your card will look like from the front. 

To create the inside liner, choose you paper and cut it slightly smaller than the card base to create a framed look.

Decorate and add your message. : )

I still need to add my sentiment and a few more cuts, but now you have instructions on how to make a shaker card. I think any child will enjoy receiving one. It will be like magic trying to figure out how the glitter got on the inside since you can't see the small piece hidden behind the liner. Good luck making one!
